My boss at work suggested we hit up a food truck for lunch. Close by where I work in the Financial District the trucks are lined up fast and furious jockeying for position to lure in the hungryhangry lunch crowd. We were eyeing a few, and Luckyim Thai was right in front of us.
There is nothing like a warm Spring day in NYC. Sunny skies. Warm breeze. Birds chirping. The smell of bacon in the air. Bacon you say? Yes, BACON! I’ll gladly throw down a blanket and kick back with copious amounts of crispy sweet bacon and unlimited drinks. I just so happens there is a new event being planning to take over Brooklyn on May 16th and 17th for all those pork loving aficionados out there. The Great Big Bacon Picnic is an indoor/outdoor gourmet bacon festival with over 100 chefs, brew masters, and mixologists showering you with unlimited bacon, extraordinary cocktails, and local craft beers!
I think I just had a bacon and booze foodgasm! This is like a party in my mouth, and you’re all invited! Wait, what? Whatever, just make sure to keep this one on your Spring hit list if in town. If you love, or even like bacon, and enjoy a cold beer or quenching libation on a warm afternoon surrounded by like-minded peeps this is a must go to event!
Can’t get any better than at the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Brooklyn, NYC. Shuffleboard, booze, DJ, cabanas, food truck, and pink flamingo wallpaper in the bathrooms. Drinks in mason jars. Pure brilliance! A unique concept totally out of the ordinary as I love the old school aspect of it blended in with a modern flair. Time to break out the Tommy Bahama shirt, cargo shorts, and sandals. Can’t forget the fruity drink with an umbrella in it.
Man, the last time I played shuffleboard was down in Florida with my long ago retired aunts and uncles. It was always considered an “old folks” game but Royal Palms has bumped it up a notch into the new millenium by making it hip and trendy for the younger generation now. The facility here rocks. Terrific bars on site serving up great cocktails and a good tap beer list. DJ and bands on hand rocking the house. Super airy large location with ten state of the art shiny shuffleboard courts. Cabana seating along the far wall overlooking the action. A built in garage and window for rotating food trucks to come in and serve guests. Shuffleboard leagues. Parties for groups. Bingo night. Live music. This place is just pure fun. Retro styling with a Miami flair. They have nailed it! This ain’t your grandpappy’s shuffleboard! It actually can be called cool to play shuffleboard now. The “SALTY PIMP” SMACKED me around like the HO that I am, and demanded that I get my man-gina out there and bring him more money! WRAP YOUR LIPS around that cone! You better work!
Now that I had the pimp-hand smack me around a bit I was ready for my first Big Gay Ice Cream truck experience. Waiting on line in anticipation I was contemplating which creative concoction to try – the Salty Pimp, Bea Arthur, Gobbler, CoCoCone, Wasabi Cone, or the Monday Sundae. All have really inventive toppings and flavorings added to the wonderfully creamy and airy vanilla ice cream. There is no real way to describe this ice cream. It is worlds apart from Mr Softee, crazily better then many gelato stands, and beats the heck out of Pinkeberry and Tasti D-Lite. If there is one ice cream truck you should bring visiting friends and family to on a hot summer day it is this one. Hands down. Continue reading Big Gay Ice Cream Truck – the NYC Salty Pimp!→
