The Milton NYC – a new classy locals joint in Yorkville.

Wonderful new bar in Yorkville NYC for a classy cocktail in a terrific setting. (yeah, it’s been a while since it opened but I have been lazy catching up on my reviews to write) I’m always looking for new spots to check out close to home and The Milton located around the corner from where I live is basically a stone’s throw away. Good thing it’s stumbling distance as they make a mean cocktail here!

Some quick observations –

Pleasant date spot. Good for brunch, light dinner, or after work drinks. Attentive service and friendly bartenders. The type of place to wind down with a libation after a long day at the bar area, or to take your special someone out for a tasty bite in the dining room or out front on the sidewalk seating when the weather cooperates.

A decent mix of craft type beers on tap, and a nifty cocktail list. They make a pretty decent spicy bloody mary here too. On our last visit our group of four had a few rounds of these. Many places make a mediocre bloody with the mix coming from a bottle pre-made and store bought. These we could tell were made from scratch, the correct way. Yum.

The menu consists of American, Irish and English influences. Weekend brunch served too. Quaint seating in the back dining area. Kind of a mix of Irish snug and British pub. Looks romantic too at night when the lights are dimmed, candles are lit all around, and flowers are on the table. Cozy, classy, but not stuffy at all.

Hey, clean bathrooms too! For the ladies, there are hooks under the bar top to hang bags and coats on. That is always something my gal appreciates. It’s the little details like this which raises my opinion of a place. Bonus!

Come in for a house cocktail in the $11-$13 price range, and a pint will run you around $8 – $10 on the average. Funny, their cocktail prices are fairly priced, but the beers are maybe a dollar or two overpriced in my opinion. Also, they offer a happy hour on select drinks for $5 and bar snacks for $7 so there is that option to go easier on the wallet. Not a bad deal here actually, and something on the menu for everyone whether you’re a beer person or one who enjoys the harder spirits.

Another win for the hood in an area that needs it during the 2nd Ave subway construction going on! Well thought out decor, ambiance, tasty food, and delightful staff. It’s an appealing locals bar that is a welcome addition to this part of the neighborhood, and much needed.

  1. $11-$13 is a fair cocktail price? Except for the $10 martinis at the martini bar, cocktails around here are less pricey here in WI. I don’t think I could afford to drink much in NYC, so I will live and drink vicariously through your blog posts.

Hey, if you ever get to Virginia, go to Nelson County, Hwy 151. I was there last week. There is a plethora of brew pubs, wineries and cideries on that highway. From what my taste buds told me, it’s all yummy.

    1. Hey Mary!

Yes, in NYC that’s the average cocktail rate in a good joint. You live out in the burbs where it’s a lot cheaper. I wish it was more like your prices here. I would be able to drink a lot more!

  2. Hey Phil,

With this place being so close it looks like you’ve found a perfect new “local”. Happy hours too, I can just imagine the hours I could lose in there if I lived so close.

Another great review. You really are spoilt in NYC.

  3. That place looks super nice. Thumbs up for keeping an eye on the bar scene of your own neighborhood. I’m usually not so good at doing that, as I always get caught up in writing about all the nice places I see abroad instead. PS: A nice Bloody Mary can save even the worst date:)

    1. Hey Mitzie!

I have found that many locals places are just as good as many abroad. With many new spots opening around here I hardly ever have to leave.

  4. You have totally been selling me on Yorkville. It looks like such a fun part of NYC to live in. I’m drawn to there, to Brooklyn and to that area to the west above midtown but below the official “Upper West Side” – don’t know what it’s called, but I love walking there. 🙂

    1. Hey Jenny!

So many great hoods in NYC to check out. Yorkville is old school but up and coming along with the UES area. Lots of new places to party at now!
