The Brew HopFirst Annual 5K + Craft Beer FestivalSet To Take Place On Sunday, September 18thOn Randall’s IslandFeaturing 12 Local Breweries, With More To Be AnnouncedEarly Bird Tickets Now Available While Supplies Last
Now, I love a cold tasty brew on a warm NYC summer day. Especially during this heat wave we are going through! So much swamp ass! The beer lover in me is always up to trying something new. Then again, over these past five months or so I have pretty much cut out a lot of my boozing antics, along with a better overall diet, and incorporated running as part of my training. Mainly 5K runs this year as I am halfway to my goal of ten races. Running is a love/hate thing with me, so when I found out that a 5K event is coming to NYC that combines the grueling exhilaration of completing a race along with the fun exuberance of a beer festival I was all over it!
Are you kidding me? This sounds awesome! It’s literally right in my backyard so I have to do this. Seriously, anyone who likes to run and also enjoys a good beer should check this out. Run your 3.2 miles, get all hot and sweaty, then cool down with some terrific New York based brewery selections.
Here are some tidbits and details from their official press release –
The Brew Hop is excited to announce their first annual 5K + Craft Beer Festival, coming to Randall’s Island Park on Sunday, September 18th. Tickets are officially on-sale to the public, with Early Bird tickets available while supplies last. The event will feature complimentary tastings from craft breweries around the Greater New York Area, such as: Brooklyn Brewery, Sixpoint Brewery, SingleCut Beersmiths, Third Rail Beer, Bronx Brewery, Gun Hill Brewing Company, Rockaway Brewing, KelSo Beer Company, Alphabet City Brewing, Blue Point Brewing Company, Great South Bay Brewery, Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, and more to be announced. Some dang good breweries here, and I should know, as I have consumed many a pint from each.
The Brew Hop is a brand new event that gives attendees the chance to combine their love for running and craft beer, aiming to build a bridge between two seemingly unrelated yet perfectly compatible pastimes. The day starts off with a 5K race (Registration @ 10am | Race @ 12pm) followed by a festival from 12:30pm – 4pm for attendees to indulge in the best beer and food New York City has to offer. Runners will receive a congratulatory medal at the end of the race! For those interested in solely partaking in the post-race festivities, there is a ‘Beer Fest Only’ ticket available for purchase. VIP tickets are also available for purchase, which will grant access to a private lounge area with wait staff to get beers for you, free massages, private bathrooms, exclusive food and beer offerings, and a limited edition poster. All attendees will enjoy complimentary beer samples with their ticket purchase, along with a tasting glass, koozie, and other surprises from participating breweries.
The post-race festival will feature live music, lawn games, brewery row, art installations, local food trucks, vendor village, and seating areas. What a great way to enjoy a Sunday in September!
It’s also tied in to a great cause. The Brew Hop will benefit City Harvest, the world’s first food rescue organization, by donating 10% of the proceeds directly to the charity. There will also be a food drive on-site for attendees who wish to bring non-perishable food items to donate. https://www.cityharvest.org/

Are you kidding? Sign. Me. Up. I hate to run, but heck it’s only 3 miles. The rest of the event sounds like a blast. And, it’s for a good cause. Win, win!
Good luck. I’m looking forward to the follow-up post with pictures.

Hey Patricia!
I can’t wait to finish the race and then run right into a beer stand! Perfect way to end a run!
Looks Fun Phil. Enjoy!
Hey Peggy!
Thanks! It’s this weekend and I am thirsty already!
Wow a run with a festival at the end. They should call it the Phil Hop!
Hey Karen!
I might be dragging myself out of this by the end. A real “beer crawl” on all fours!
I think even I could run 5K if I new there were a raft of real ales waiting for me at the finishing line. Pity it’s taking place at the other side of the world.
Hey Gary!
Well, a whole beer festival waiting at the finish line is a lot of incentive to run those three miles!
