The UES is the next foodie haven! Kill me now!

IMAG0134

I swear the Upper East Side area that I live in will the the death of me. It seems as if Yorkville is quickly becoming a foodie hot spot north of 80th street. As much as I try to keep on a sensible eating plan along with frequent stints in the gym, the food in this hood now is like a bad habit! Sure, I love good food, and it doesn’t have to be all fancy-schmancy.  I don’t have to pass the Grey Poupon to enjoy a good meal. Just give me some solid tasty vittles along with good service in a clean environment and I am a happy camper.

It seems as if we are receiving an influx of bars and restaurants popping up here, with more on the way from reports I have read. With the Second Ave Subway line getting closer to completion  (planned for a 2016 opening) there are a bunch of new hot spots that have recently opened, and a few more I have passed by that are close to opening. When this new subway line arrives I gather we will see many more new businesses come up this way and take root. After all, we do have one of the most heavily populated residential areas in Manhattan, along with an ever growing younger crowd and gay community. It’s not just an area that has been falsely stereotyped as being where all the older generation lives. It’s way more diverse than that now. Plus, it’s still one of the more affordable areas to find an apartment in the city. Just head east of Lexington Ave closer to 2nd and 1st Avenues and there are deals to be found. Sure, it still needs some work around here, but it’s up and coming. Part of me hopes that it stays a secret and hidden gem!

I love a good Speakeasy. Oh, cocktail joy!

Living in NYC offers a plethora of watering holes to get your drink on. There is so much to choose from that at times we argue endlessly about where to go or what kind of place we want to spend our drinking time at. We are a fickle bunch and all have our preferred spots to down a beer or enjoy a quality made libation. Many are creatures of habit and will only hit up the same joints now and again. This drives me nuts as I like to explore new places and try out something different depending on my mood. I am happy to say that the group of friends I associate with also are of the same mindset. Bars, pubs, clubs, sports bars, dive bars, gay bars, cocktail bars, hipster bars, metal bars, etc, and my own special favorite – the Speakeasy.

I love a good Speakeasy. These specialized bars that pay homage to a time long ago when our country lost it’s mind and outlawed all beer, booze, and spirits. Prohibition to me was one of the worst decisions that our country ever made. Yeah, how did that brain-thrust of an idea work out?

Old School Burlesque in a Modern Era

I am always on the lookout for new, unusual, fun, and different bars to enjoy a libation. Here is one on the risque side that is sure to get your blood pressure pumping.

In an era when many new bars open up and try to cram as much modern technology into every nook and cranny like some Vegas mega-sports-bar-ultra-lounge Frankenstein monster it is surprisingly refreshing to walk into a place such as Nurse Bettie here in NYC.

Like a throwback to the 1950’s Bettie Page style pin-ups. Simple, chic, and sexy with free burlesque shows on Wednesday and Thursday nights performed by some pretty talented and hot temptresses. You can almost picture this place full of men in fedora hats and women dressed to the nines back in the day drinking proper cocktails while enjoying the visually arousing entertainment on the stage.

Comfort Style Eats With A Gastropub Flair!

Sometimes I trek over to the outer boroughs for a Yelp event, meeting friends for drinks, or to try out a place to eat. William Hallet was such a terrific find that I had to share it here. My recent Yelp review –

Phenomenal! Just Phenomenal! I was so surprised to find such a terrific place in Astoria that makes such delicious comfort food with a fancy gastropub flair! Along with speakeasy type cocktails it was a perfect find! Even the prices were quite reasonable!

Some of the boys and I decided to grab a bite at William Hallet after the recent Yelp Queens event and happened upon this place because the other restaurant we wanted to hit up was closed already. Sucks for them and good for us as we dropped some coin on food and drinks here that rocked.
