Experience the manliness that is Umami Burger NYC

ooo

I just devoured the juicy awesomeness that is the Manly Burger. I am all that is Man. And then some!

It’s kind of surreal that just a few weeks ago I dined at Umami Burger here in NYC and enjoyed every bite of this fatty, meaty, cheesy, caloriffic-laden burgery goodness. I have been sitting on this review since then and over that time I had an epiphany of sorts. I actually have decided to stop eating meat. What??? Yeah, I know, right? Seafood and healthier nutrient dense options are on the agenda now. I don’t know if I would really class myself as a Pescatarian just yet as I still love a good steak. Yet, lately I just started to get sick of eating fatty greasy meat products and yearned for a change. Especially since I am now ramping up my workouts to get in shape for summer. Let’s just see how this grand experiment all works out for me over the next three or four months.

In the meantime, let us chat about this manliness that I wrapped my lips around, shall we? Continue reading Experience the manliness that is Umami Burger NYC

Snowstorm Jonas had one huge set of snowballs on him!

Epic NYC snowstorm that was a blast from the past!

Some of you spoiled millennials whining and crying about the snow, the harsh winter, the sudden cold, and not being able to go out need to get a grip. Waaah – I can’t get to Starbucks! Waaah – I can’t go to brunch today!

This past decade has seen so many mild winters you have no clue. Crap, it was 70 on Christmas here. What more do you want? This winter has been like a flaccid penis until this fluffer of a storm dropped to its knees and went to work in front of Old Man Winter. Yeah, Jonas has no shame. He worked hard for every inch.

Back in my day we normally had winter snowstorms every week, for months, and walked miles to school, uphill, with bare feet, then walked ten miles into town and worked hard labor, and then walked back home in the middle of another blizzard! Hey you kids – off my lawn! Continue reading Snowstorm Jonas had one huge set of snowballs on him!

Craft beer, pinball, and ping pong at Treadwell Park NYC!

Pretzels as big as your head!

Great new bar where the mediocre Neely’s BBQ used to be. It’s always a joy when my beer swilling cohorts alert me to a new craft beer discovery right in my own hood on the Upper East Side of NYC. As they were already there and invited me to join them I was unaware that a new business had opened up in this space, and as I sauntered up the street after exiting the subway a few blocks away I saw the sign on the outside for Treadwell Park.

Whoa! Terrific beer list, cocktails, ambiance, food, ping pong tables, pinball machines, popcorn machine, and flat screens all around. Holy cow – a working fireplace too! I could not believe my eyes. Can I move in? I won’t take up much space. I’ll sleep on the floor under the ping pong table.

Very nice woodsy urban cabin decor. Plenty of seating along the bar, high tops with stools, and heavy picnic benches that seats couples or groups.

Varied menu with a little something on it for everyone. Brats, sandwiches, finger foods, salads, and some main course entrees. I found the prices fair for the area, and for the type of delish craft beers curated on their list, but may seem a bit pricey for some. Still, I’m happy to shell out a few more shekels to hang out in a chill place like this and enjoy my time here. Continue reading Craft beer, pinball, and ping pong at Treadwell Park NYC!

Olives! Hummus! Babaganoush! Peri Ela on the UES of NYC.

Walked by this place many times and we finally decided to try it out on one of those evenings when we could not make up our minds on what to eat. Could never really tell what was inside as the outside is understated and windows have thick lace curtains on them. Walking inside I was greeted by a wonderful dark wood bistro with candles all around, terrific lighting accents, mid-eighties Euro type paintings on the walls, and a warm welcoming little bar. Definitely more of an older adult crowd that gathers here at Peri Ela on the Upper East Side of NYC.

Even though we did not have reservations the hostess was very kind and offered us a table by a window that seated four. Happy to get it as many people piled in after us and all tables were taken. We were handed the menus, and wow, what a selection of food. Obviously, very Turkish inspired selections with a touch of Greek/Mediterranean to it. Since we wanted to try out a few things, but were not totally starving, we went with the “Meze and Wine For Two”. For $30 you get a bottle of Turkish wine (red or white) and a plate with hummus, smoked eggplant, red beans, ezme (chopped veggies and walnuts), and fried eggplant. Great deal! It is kind of tapas style so you get a sampling of each. I thought this might not be enough food so we also added the cheese cigar borak ( lightly fried phyllo stuffed with feta cheese – YUM ) and it was served as four pieces on a plate. A basket of warm fluffy bread was also served, along with a small plate of olives in oil. Continue reading Olives! Hummus! Babaganoush! Peri Ela on the UES of NYC.
