Lasagna. Delicious, fresh, hot, cheesy, mouth-watering pasta goodness.
Well, this was an unexpected find in the upper regions of New York State. Not much in this small quaint town that looks like it’s plucked from middle America in the 1950’s, but Mount Morris has some nice spots such as Questa Lasagna which was a terrific food find!
After I ran a Tough Mudder last summer in upstate NY the next day we were driving up to Buffalo and Niagara Falls using the GPS, and it had us pass through this town for some odd reason. Sometimes I think the GPS is a bit bipolar and decides to go off on a tangent. I think we had the “Rain Man” GPS unit. As a storm was just starting we decided to park the car and duck into a few places to explore for a while. One shop owner suggested we check out Questa Lasagna for lunch down the street. Sometimes you just stumble upon a gem of a place. Absolutely one of the most enjoyable vacation spots we have stayed at. Back in July when I took a week off to run a Tough Mudder in upstate NY we swung by Cooperstown for a few days as we were looking for a nice place to stay. Searching the internet I found Cobblescote on the Lake. It was just what I was looking for. An old school kind of place with character that represented the lakeside outdoors area. During our week’s vacation we had stayed in a few modern chain hotels and were super pleased to find a place such as this that was the total opposite. Right on Otsego Lake in a picturesque setting among the woods. As we drove up both of us were blown away. This place was something out of a Norman Rockwell painting he did for the Saturday Evening Post back in the day. We immediately wished we were staying there longer than a three day weekend. In the battle of the Buffalo Wings Duff’s Famous Wings totally blows Anchor Bar away!
At least that’s my opinion, but you know what they say about a-holes and opinions. Also, my a-hole had nothing to do with my taste buds during this trip to upstate NY. I had a chance to try them both while in town for a few days recently. Both spots could not be anymore different. Much has been said regarding the Buffalo Wing supremacy when it comes to these two iconic bastions of wing debauchery. My vote goes to Duff’s!
Anchor bar is where you go as a tourist to say you ate wings at the place that invented them. It’s an old bar with great memorabilia and old motorcycles hanging on the walls. The dining area is straight out of some old Catskills looking joint and looks it’s age.
