Some days you just crave a big, huge, thick, and creamy burrito to shove into your mouth. The kind that leaves you panting, coated in sweat, with drool rolling down your chin. The kind that leaves you wanting for more.
There are those days when I just don’t feel like eating all healthy and nutritious. We have all had those days. When you just can’t eat another salad or baked fish plate. You’d almost rather eat a bowl of dirt with ice cream and chocolate syrup on it. I had one of those days recently where I threw the calorie counts out the window, and decided to go have a fun meal nearby at the newly opened Duke’s on the UES of NYC.
Walking in we were greeted by the friendly hostess and were offered any seat we wanted that were available. As it was early on a weekday the place was mostly empty. Took a seat at a booth and were quickly taken care of by a terrific waitress. She made some perfect recommendations for food and drinks and answered any question we had about the menu and specials.
My observations –
Cool 70’s/80’s pop and rock playing.
Fun roadhouse decor.
Flat screens everywhere. Must be a good football weekend spot.
Plenty of cocktail concoctions. Boozy Gummy Bears!
Happy hour half prices on select libations and appetizers.
It’s a steamy swamp-assy Sunday afternoon in NYC and I was starving. Did not want to walk far in this heat wave. Looked around for a tasty new box in my hood that I could bite into and not become a soaked mess.
All I had to do was walk around the block and this hot box was right in my face! Boom!
Akami Sushi located on 1st Avenue up in Yorkville is one of those places I never ventured into, even though it is right next to one of my regular bodegas. Bento Box lunch special for $9.50 until 4pm! Great value. Nothing like wrapping my lips around a tasty box close to home!
I read over the menu outside this sushi joint on 1st Ave advertising some lunch specials that run until late in the afternoon and realized they offer many choices. I’m always into getting my lips around a tasty new box so I slipped inside. Heck, now I kick myself for not eating out this box much sooner. Continue reading Munching a tasty box close to home! Great new bar where the mediocre Neely’s BBQ used to be. It’s always a joy when my beer swilling cohorts alert me to a new craft beer discovery right in my own hood on the Upper East Side of NYC. As they were already there and invited me to join them I was unaware that a new business had opened up in this space, and as I sauntered up the street after exiting the subway a few blocks away I saw the sign on the outside for Treadwell Park.
Whoa! Terrific beer list, cocktails, ambiance, food, ping pong tables, pinball machines, popcorn machine, and flat screens all around. Holy cow – a working fireplace too! I could not believe my eyes. Can I move in? I won’t take up much space. I’ll sleep on the floor under the ping pong table.
Very nice woodsy urban cabin decor. Plenty of seating along the bar, high tops with stools, and heavy picnic benches that seats couples or groups.
Varied menu with a little something on it for everyone. Brats, sandwiches, finger foods, salads, and some main course entrees. I found the prices fair for the area, and for the type of delish craft beers curated on their list, but may seem a bit pricey for some. Still, I’m happy to shell out a few more shekels to hang out in a chill place like this and enjoy my time here. Continue reading Craft beer, pinball, and ping pong at Treadwell Park NYC!→
