Now that the holiday season is behind us and we are all recovered somewhat from Christmas shopping and New Years hangovers, there is time to relax and reflect a bit. Catching up on my blogging. Once in a while I take a peek into my blog stats as I’m sitting here naked on our rich Corinthian leather couch enjoying a cup of International Coffee (peppermint mocha) and peruse the search terms by which those out there are using to find my blog. Some are the run of the mill keywords which are as expected. Then there are those that are, well, a “bit disturbing” if that is a proper way to put it. I honestly have no clue as to why these word combinations lead to my blog. I mean, I know that I can be a bit warped at times, but am I really this insane? Just taking a looksie into the past week’s stats to start off the new year here are a few choice search terms I found were used to find my blog.
Punk rockabilly surfer tiki bar. So much kitsch. So much fun. So many tattoos!
I started off another of my epic bar crawls at Otto’s Shrunken Head for happy hour. It’s kind of fitting that they have $3 pints of PBR of which I downed a few along with a shot of Jameson while listing to the DJ play an eclectic mix of punk, surfer, goth, and rock tunes. Since it was early still I had a chance to chill out as the crowd was sparse save for a sexy tattooed bartender who dug my Star Wars dancing Stormtrooper t-shirt, and the two tattooed ladies in cool throwback Bettie Page styled outfits that asked me to turn around and model for them. The crowd that was in there ranged from older sexy tattooed cougars, to younger hipsters, to fun music types, to punks, to rockers, and other kinds all mixed into one giant flaming tiki bowl of personalities. Half the crowd looks like they want to kick your ass, including the bartender if you piss her off, and the other half looks like they would be fun to get drunk with as they are all here for that one sole purpose. It’s a fun diverse crowd in a fun eccentric retro tiki themed bar! Continue reading Otto’s Shrunken Head – kitschy tattooed tiki fun in NYC!→
It’s been quite a while since I have ventured out of NYC to come down to the scary southern hemisphere of the USA where my parents have retired to. Sure, it seems like a bad stereotype when it comes to those hitting a certain age and heading to warm sunny Florida to bask in their golden years, but my parents are living the dream! They live in a very nice gated 55 and over golf course community – but don’t golf. Go figure. It’s in central Florida in between Orlando and Tampa in an area known as “horse country”. It is an interesting, but kind of sleepy part of the state. Think “witness protection program” where they hide you away to die of suburban boredom. Heck, even John Travolta lives here and has been known to shop at Walmart late at night. I can picture the in-store announcements – “Travolta aisle 5, clean up, aisle 5, Vinnie Barbarino, aisle 5”!
