Guac! Mole! Cascalote Latin Bistro in El Barrio, NYC!

Wonderful food and service up in El Barrio, NYC!

Delicious guacamole, and the salmon special on a bed of plantains was just perfect. I scarfed it all down while enjoying a damn fine Mojito. My taste buds were singing. My belly was happy. My gluttonous desires were completely satisfied.

My gal totally gushed over the chicken mole. That mole sauce was righteous! Oh, and they don’t skimp on the portions. You go home full after a meal here with a food baby in tow.

We walked in on a weekday evening while exploring a bit of Spanish Harlem and found an empty restaurant, but decided to give it a try. So happy we did as I was in the mood for some cocktails and authentic Latin eats. Cascalote Latin Bistro did not disappoint. Continue reading Guac! Mole! Cascalote Latin Bistro in El Barrio, NYC!

Muy Delicioso! Get your Mexican fill at El Paso in El Barrio NYC

Muy Delicioso! Living far uptown on the Upper East Side right below Spanish Harlem it’s a quick trek for us to head a bit north and discover some new joints to dine at in NYC.

As we decided during a nice day on a past weekend to wander around East Harlem a bit and hang out in El Barrio we definitely got hungry for a good dinner and craved some tasty Mexican eats. That is when we came across El Paso Restaurante Mexicano.

What a wonderfully decorated restaurant! You can tell they put some time and effort into the decor here – artwork, statues, ceiling beams, lighting, colors, nice bar and tables, etc. Even the bathrooms with a communal sink area had a cool design. There is even an enclosed outdoor back room which was also nicely decorated and looks like it would also be great for parties. It all projects a feeling of warmth and coziness. I love The Duck – a trashy weirdo dive bar in NYC!

IMG_20130704_191656_096Words just can’t describe my new found love for this craptacular bar! I mean, it has a freaking toilet as it’s profile picture on review sites. How can you not love a dive bar that gives new meaning to what a dive is supposed to be about? Oddly unique, yet you feel afraid for your safety just a bit, but still drawn to it like a drug addict trapped in a crack house.

Um, what is this dark weird little fake bar before a bar that you have to pass through to get to The Duck? Is this a dive speakeasy kind of thing? Some beefy dude at the door checks your ID and lets you in. You meander through the empty faux bar in front to get to the entrance of the real bar.

Then it hits you when you walk in. What is this wonderful place that looks like a hospital or insane asylum basement dorm room decorated in the most makeshift way? It’s almost as if a bunch of drunk college kids watched Animal House and decided to make mom and dad’s basement a dive bar with crap they found on the side of the road or in a dumpster. There are wires, cables, extension cords, and surge protectors hanging all over the place. One short and the place goes up in a burst of flame! Beer signage, strange memorabilia, and old discarded bras hang on the wall and ceiling. Christmas lights. A few tables and chairs to sit at next to the bar. A pool table in front of a large projection flat screen from 1990 which I think is broken.  Continue reading I love The Duck – a trashy weirdo dive bar in NYC!

Burgerlicious! Milk Burger in East Harlem NYC.

BURGERLICIOUS!!!!!!!

Now, I know most people who live in Manhattan or Brooklyn travel up past midtown for anything. Oh, God forbid, they actually get on a subway and venture up past 14th street. Well, I’ll tell you this – not everything good is on the LES, Brooklyn, and Queens. That is all fine and dandy – I’ll keep great places like Milk Burger to myself!

Shake Shack be damned there is a new playa playa up in El Barrio/East Harlem NYC looking to lay the smack down on ya!

Not too long ago I had some time to kill so I decided to take a walk. As I was entering a barren stretch of land along 2nd ave where there are just a few bodegas and stores I saw this gleaming structure in white shining like a beacon calling me home. It was as if I was in a dream and Milk Burger was this bastion of burger meat that kept calling my name. Hunger pangs were in effect so lunch meat baby here I come! Continue reading Burgerlicious!
