Miss Saigon on Broadway – a NYC Experience Not To Be Missed.

As the cast took their bows and the curtain dropped I knew I had just witnessed brilliance.

Wow. I have no words. Stunning performance. Damn onions under our seats making me cry.  This run of Miss Saigon on Broadway is for a limited time only, and a must see if in NYC.

Triumphant! Absorbing! Emotional! Powerful! Moving! There are so many feels I experienced while sitting though this performance of Miss Saigon. Even though the base story is kind of sad you still could not deny the uplifting soul of this musical. The talent of the cast coming over from the West End in London shines during every act. The singing soars. The stage design is perfect. The costuming superb. The special effects are truly what makes Broadway magical. I read many positive reviews of the run Miss Saigon with this cast received across the pond, and it did not disappoint. Continue reading Miss Saigon on Broadway – a NYC Experience Not To Be Missed.

Stylized killing at American Psycho on Broadway in NYC!

o

Setting my Sony Walkman on auto-playback to go see this again!

Highly recommended! If you’re a fan of the book, movie, or an 80’s NYC buff you’ll love it and get all the pop culture references. Yes, I am one of those native New Yorkers that grew up in the 80’s/90’s and went clubbing at the Tunnel, hit the hard to get in restos, Wall Street excess was in high gear, and remember all the fashion, technology, drugs, music, and movie references that were mentioned throughout. Oh, the memories!

We scored primo orchestra seat tickets right in front with an amazing view as part of a Yelp Night event on Broadway that were pretty amazing. A big thanks to Yelp for the hook up as we both loved it! Sure, comp ducats are always so choice, but they had no bearing on my thoughts of the show here. We thoroughly really enjoyed it.

Great music and score. From the catchy Duncan Sheik music and lyrics, to the highly talented cast singing, dancing, and acting out on stage this show moves along and keeps you both laughing hysterically at times to sitting in silent tension as you know what is coming. Benjamin Walker’s performance as Patrick Bateman was brilliant as you get to witness him descend deeper into the madness of his deteriorating psyche. Was he hallucinating all of this? The killings? The blood? The sex? He pulls us in and we get to experience it all as if standing alongside the carnage of his crumbling mind. We happily go along with this dark and psychotic ride as his wingmen of insanity. Continue reading Stylized killing at American Psycho on Broadway in NYC!

I don’t get what all the Wicked hype is about in NYC.

In between all my gallivanting to bars, drunken escapades, gym endeavors, and general tomfoolery I sometimes do try to incorporate some culture in my life. Living here in the heart of NYC offers us easy access to many events and the bright lights of Broadway minutes away. Just so happens that we caught the musical Wicked recently. Broadway Week tickets for great seats in the orchestra for the win!

Wicked

Good show, maybe way overhyped, but still one to experience as a pure Broadway production spectacle.

The cast was fine, along with some nifty songs and funny moments, and the actress portraying Wicked Witch Elphaba ( Rachel Tucker ) was solid in the role since she came from London’s West End where she was the longest consecutive running Elphaba. The song “Defying Gravity” is the show stopper here and she nailed it

Plus, the Gershwin Theater is a great spot for this production. Roomy, great AC, and a lot of history to look at in the lobby and hallways. The stage set, costumes, and artwork for the show are terrific. You can tell a lot of thought went into the staging for this show. It’s basically a character in itself. Discover a few Odd Birdz off-off-Broadway in NYC!

Here in NYC most people think of Broadway and historic playhouses along the Great White Way when it comes to stage shows. Well, I have some news for you. Just head out to catch a group of Odd Birdz downtown and well off- off- Broadway to partake in a terrific evening of talented ensemble group fun and off the wall hijinks.

What we had the pleasure of viewing recently at the intimate Players Theatre on Macdougal Street was the award-winning Israeli-based theatre troupe Tziporela performing their critically acclaimed show, Odd Birdz. Not having heard of or seen this before we did not know what to expect. Man, after sitting there for 90 minutes we were genuinely bummed that the show could not go on for another 30 minutes or more. It was that good!

After nearly a decade of sold-out performances around the world and a successful run in NYC in the fall of 2014, Tziporela has returned New York City for a 7-week run at The Players Theatre, starting July 16th and ending on Sept 6. Since it’s a limited schedule of performances I would suggest seeing it as soon as possible before they are gone. The group of nine that makes up Tziporela puts on an exuberant show that will leave you smiling and in high spirits on the way out. The price is right and so affordable for a night out to be entertained like this. A night of good laughs are so worth it. Continue reading Discover a few Odd Birdz off-off-Broadway in NYC!
