The Curvy Widow is Dating Off-Broadway in NYC

I had a chance to attend a performance of Curvy Widow as part of a Yelp Night event recently.

Now, I know my rating might seem a bit lower than many who also viewed it, but I need to go with my gut feelings and be honest with my thoughts of this show. Maybe it was because perhaps the content matter was just something I could not totally relate to.

The show itself seemed skewed to an older demographic of a specific age category and gender. In my opinion, this is the type of show to take your 55 years and older mothers, aunts, grandparents, and female relatives. Seemed the majority of the crowd fit this profile on the night I was there. Nothing wrong with that at all, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Others might find it enjoyable and entertaining, especially if they can relate to the subject matter which has to do with being a widower dating after decades of marriage suddenly ending. Miss Saigon on Broadway – a NYC Experience Not To Be Missed.

As the cast took their bows and the curtain dropped I knew I had just witnessed brilliance.

Wow. I have no words. Stunning performance. Damn onions under our seats making me cry.  This run of Miss Saigon on Broadway is for a limited time only, and a must see if in NYC.

Triumphant! Absorbing! Emotional! Powerful! Moving! There are so many feels I experienced while sitting though this performance of Miss Saigon. Even though the base story is kind of sad you still could not deny the uplifting soul of this musical. The talent of the cast coming over from the West End in London shines during every act. The singing soars. The stage design is perfect. The costuming superb. The special effects are truly what makes Broadway magical. I read many positive reviews of the run Miss Saigon with this cast received across the pond, and it did not disappoint. Continue reading Miss Saigon on Broadway – a NYC Experience Not To Be Missed.

Cruel Intentions at Les Liaisons Dangereuses on Broadway!

o-3

Yelp Night at Les Liaisons Dangereuses had me living in sin and plotting my revenge in NYC!

I have to admit that I love Broadway productions. I’m more of a musical fan but there is nothing like watching some electrifying dark humor. It was like viewing the movie Cruel Intentions but takes place back in the 1780’s. From my perch in the first row of the mezzanine I had a bird’s-eye view of the deliciously wicked proceedings being set forth by two of Broadway’s most talented performers of this era.

Deception.

Evilness.

Cunning.

Sex.

Manipulation.

Lust.

Love.

Revenge.

Sadness.

Despair.

This play had it all. Continue reading Cruel Intentions at Les Liaisons Dangereuses on Broadway!

Kings Theatre in Brooklyn – a phoenix rising from the ashes.

o

Wow!

That’s the word that came to mind when we stepped in here last night to see the Whitesnake concert in this beautifully renovated theater.

The Kings Theatre is easy to get to from Manhattan by taking the Q subway to the Beverly Road station and walking a few minutes over. It was that simple.

I just could not fathom that this theater was closed for decades. They did a wonderful job bringing it back to its ornate glory. The thick dark woods, chandeliers, red velvet curtains, period furniture, images along the walls, the ceilings in the lobby and main theater, the regal architectural stylings, the amazing faces and carvings along the walls around the stage, and the old school marquee out front listing the night’s event were all breathtaking. There truly is so much to see here, especially if you are one who enjoys the grandiosity of old-school architecture, and a piece of Brooklyn that harkens to a bygone era of NYC entertainment.
