Heading into 2016 at Ludicrous Speed! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all! It’s been one a heck of a ride in 2015 hasn’t it?

Well, here we are fresh into the New Year and with 2015 in the rear view mirror I am looking forward to see what awaits me in the next twelve months. This past year has been one of many ups and down in my life. The passing of loved ones, completing another mudder race for charity, many food and drinking adventures with friends, travel abroad, work stress along with work success, attending concerts of my fav bands while seeing some play their last shows, Broadway events, friends getting married, along with many laughs, tears, trials and tribulations along the way. As always, my rock along the way keeping me honest, and on the straight and narrow has been my gal Stacey. Sometimes I wonder why she still sticks with me as I must be a lot to handle, but for some reason she puts up with my stubbornness and shenanigans. Guess she loves me and my crazy ways. Here’s to more fun in 2016!

Eat more salads. Yeah, I know it’s pretty basic and kind of cliché when Jan 1 comes around to start a diet but I really need to cut back on the meat and crappy food eating. Gotta get those greens in even if it means sacrificing my love of greasy crispy delicious bacon. Sigh.

Jump out of a plane, climb a volcano, surf in shark infested waters, complete the NYC Marathon, run with the bulls, kayak over a waterfall, have an extreme enema, find Waldo. Screw it. I’ll just have some deep-fried Oreos and a nap.

Stop fretting over the little things. As long as I remember that we are all surrounded by assholes it will be ok. Continue reading Heading into 2016 at Ludicrous Speed! Happy New Year!

Cupid’s Undie Run – running in my undies for a good cause!

I will be running in my undies this coming February so kids with neurofibromatosis (NF), also known as children’s tumors, can grow up happy and healthy.

Yeah, I’m basically gonna be freezing my butt off as I strip down to my underpants to be a part of the Cupid’s Undie Run in the cold on February 13th in NYC along with many others contributing to this great cause. So here I am getting talked into doing this after running Warrior Dashes and Tough Mudders. In my undies. In the dead of Winter. At least there will be no obstacles this time. Just maybe some snow and arctic temps. I think I can handle that. Just have to get through a 1.5 mile run and hit the bar with all my fellow runners and teammates afterwards. Hot toddies please!

Hey, what about shrinkage? Has anyone thought about that? I better stuff a few extra socks in there. To keep my junk warm of course. Not that I really need it. 🙂

Here’s just a few facts about NF and the Children’s Tumor Foundation – Continue reading Cupid’s Undie Run – running in my undies for a good cause!

Conquering Urban Mudder in NYC. The kid does it again!

UMM
This was much harder than it looks! Head Rush was one of the first obstacles. Time to get wet!

In the words of Rocky Balboa- “It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward.”

“That’s how winning is done!”

Each year now I put myself through one of these mud runs and obstacle course races. Whether it’s a Warrior Dash, Tough Mudder, Urban Mudder, etc. 3 miles, 12 miles, 5 miles. Each year I end up a bit bruised, battered, bloodied, and scraped up. I do it for a cause. To give something back. Anything.

They say it’s a young man’s game. I’m probably one of the older dudes out there on event day. I don’t let it defeat me. Maybe I’m crazy. Why do I put myself through this pain? Because I can. Because I won’t ever give up. Life is too much fun, and too short, to sit on a couch and watch it all go by. Even if what I do makes a tiny bit of difference in someone’s life it’s all worth it to me. It’s worth the aches and pains my body feels after these races. Plus, I will admit I do enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I cross that finish line.

I recruited my bud Francisco to get out there with me for his first OCR and we conquered the first ever Urban Mudder NYC in 2015! It was a terrific day and experience. Even with a sunny hot 88 degree day out we crushed it. Boom!

We want to thank all those who offered their support and donations. You rock! We were one of the top 5 fundraising teams for the Make A Wish charity with over $3400! The Make A Wish Foundation was very grateful for our efforts. In total they raised over $40,000 with Urban Mudder. Again, thank you all who helped support us with this cause. Urban Mudder NYC tomorrow and Make A Wish charity!

I can’t believe it’s going to happen tomorrow!

That is, of course, me making a fool of myself again for a good cause. Miles of running broken up by jumping, climbing, crawling, and hanging over and through a dozen or so obstacles created by a bunch of evil madmen.

Seems like I just can’t give up doing stupid stuff to my body and putting it through some sort of hellish physical ordeal each year now. After my experiences these past few years completing a Warrior Dash and a Tough Mudder you would think I’m pretty well versed with obstacle course and mud runs by now. I thought I was. Here I am entered to participate in an Urban Mudder happening right here in NYC on July 25th and I still feel all anxious and nervous a bit! I have been hitting the gym and getting my running game in gear these past few months. Funny thing is I normally hated running, but after going out to jog 5K’s multiple times a week I think I am actually starting to enjoy it after all these years. Shudder the thought, right?
