Tide Pods, Hot Cocoa, Naughty Words, and My Frozen Kibbly Bits.

Eat up kids! Yummy yum yum!

Why do I put myself through this?

That was the thought that ran through my mind as the wind ripped across my back, and sent a shiver down to my bones, as if Mother Nature herself pummeled me with snowballs. The weather had been a bit warmer here in NYC, so I decided to jump into the NYCRUNS Cocoa Classic 5K in Riverside Park on a Saturday morning a few weekends ago. Well, warmer by winter standards as it had been in the 30’s and 40’s most of the week leading up to the race. I had no clue, as was the case with many of the other race participants I encountered, that the temps would take an overnight nose-dive into the teens. At race time it was 19 degrees, with a wind chill that made it feel half that. Also, considering it was already windy and the race course was in the park along the water, surely made for a mind-numbing frigid run. Thank goodness it was a sunny clear day out.

Can we say, “frostbite conditions”? More like “freezing our kibbles and bits off”! That’s putting it lightly! Continue reading Tide Pods, Hot Cocoa, Naughty Words, and My Frozen Kibbly Bits.

The Joy of 30 with an Ugly Sweater, Santa, and Boozy Hot Chocolate!

Well, that was a fun ride!

When I started to pursue a running regimen, I had little clue as to where it would take me. I have always exclaimed that I am one of those who has a love/hate relationship with running. What started out as a challenge to myself and use it as a tool to burn calories and cut weight became an obsession. In less than two years, starting back in March of 2016, has culminated with me just completing my 30th official race event. Mostly 5K’s with some 4 and 5 mile races thrown in. Wow! I really never thought I would get this far, yet here I am, and I am not about to quit anytime soon.

These legs have a lot more to go. Run, Forrest, Run! Continue reading The Joy of 30 with an Ugly Sweater, Santa, and Boozy Hot Chocolate!

A Warm Summer Run at NYRR Brooklyn R-U-N 5K

Look at all these runners. Even more were in front of me!

New York Road Runners (NYRR) is a NYC based running organization that puts on many races throughout the year, and are the main organizers of the NYC Marathon. They produce running events of varying distances, and welcome runners of all types and experience. I ran the Brooklyn R-U-N 5K with this organization a few weeks ago.

They have a modern headquarters in midtown that made pre-race package pick up pretty easy. There is also a wall of history here where you can view NYC running events over the years, and they also offer running classes, tips, and expertise. You can join as a member and receive discounts on their races you sign up for. Continue reading A Warm Summer Run at NYRR Brooklyn R-U-N 5K

Sweat, beer, and running in NYC – The Brew Hop 5K!

iuoip

So here I am all hot and sweaty in NYC. Tired feet and an achy shin. Yet, drinking a cold beer and feeling fine!

In fact, after many cold brews I was feeling no pain at all!

Such was the way I was feeling after just completing another 5K race this past week. This time I ran in the inaugural Brew Hop 5K and Beer Fest. You heard that right – a three mile run followed by booths and booths of glorious craft beer! Being there and experiencing the proceedings first hand I can say that the event was a tasty hit. 1500 thirsty runners were on hand during a beautiful end of Summer weekend to enjoy this unique run along picturesque views of Randall’s Island Park.
