A major life change is somewhat scary unless you have a plan to tackle it head on. I did, and am now taking life by the throat and laughing at fear’s face. Challenge accepted!
Just after participating in the Cupid’s Undie Run on Valentine’s weekend I decided that I needed a change. Not just giving up something for Lent (if you observe that) that we all go back to doing once it’s over. Not just something for a short while. Not just a New Year’s resolution kind of thing that fades. A real change. It’s never too late. A dramatic one that might just define my life moving forward.
Looking at the many pictures of myself at that event it was obviously clear that I had fallen into a rut. I was fat, bloated, and a bit tired looking. Stress at work, long hours, eating poorly, partying too much, and not getting enough sleep can wear down even the strongest of warriors. I have always thought of myself as indestructible, and my friends used to sometimes wonder how I kept it up. I was getting sick and tired of feeling like crap and knew the time had come. Especially as a guy who has recently hit a certain age I knew that I needed to treat my body better. The human body is a very resilient machine, but a machine needs to be taken care of, and maintained, or it breaks down like any other.
On February 15th the process of Phil 2.0 was initialized……
We can rebuild him……
We have the technology…… Continue reading Running Into A Lifestyle Change Head-On With No Fear.
Holy crap what is going on with this weather in NYC? I’m gonna freeze my nuts off tomorrow running outside in the Cupid’s Undie Run! It’s for a great cause so kids with Neurofibromatosis (NF), also known as children’s tumors, can grow up happy and healthy. Worth a bit of shrinkage and hard perky nipples wouldn’t you agree?
Yeah, I’m basically gonna be freezing my man-buns off as I strip down to my underpants to be a part of the Cupid’s Undie Run in the cold on February 13th in NYC along with many others contributing to this children’s cause. So here I am getting talked into doing this after running Warrior Dashes and Tough Mudders. In my undies. In the dead of Winter. At least there will be no obstacles this time. Just some extremely cold air that has invaded the NYC area which would make a polar bear pack up and move to Florida. I think I can handle that. Just have to get through a 1.5 mile run and hit the bar with all my fellow runners and teammates afterwards. Hot toddies please! (I might pour one down my underwear after this run!)
This is the last chance to donate to such a worthwhile cause, and it’s for the kids! Any amount is so appreciated. Link to my charity page –
Look, all the talk about shrinkage is real. I need to keep my junk warm so I will have some layers and stuffing going on down there. No one wants a frostbitten hotdog and coconuts! Ouch! Continue reading Gonna freeze my nuts off for charity! Cupid’s Undie Run!
Well, that was something out of the ordinary! When going away on vacation the majority of normal people out there do something relaxing and fun. You know, the normal stuff like laying on an island beach, going on a cruise, doing Vegas or Disney, maybe even jetsetting to Europe to see the world. Some even do the staycation thing or hang out visiting family. Nope, not me being the mildly disturbed individual that I am. For some idiotic reason I decided to train for months to start my vacation off with a Tough Mudder which is one of the more grueling events one can partake. They even make you sign a “Death Waiver” to be allowed to participate. Not only is it physically demanding but also mentally taxing especially when running it solo as I did. I targeted the July 12th Upstate NY event. For months leading up to this my nights and many mornings included jogging for miles, lifting weights, and basically living in a gym. Eating healthier. I can’t say that it was a total waste of time as it sure paid off! In fact, I had a blast at the Mudder and actually did pretty well. Other than some minor injuries, bruises, and scrapes I walked off that course feeling like a champ and exhilarated. It was an amazing feeling knowing that I succeeded doing something I set out as a personal goal, and overall not many people can claim to taking on the challenge of this event and conquering it. Definitely not a walk through the park.
I am now a proud member of Mudder Nation! Continue reading I conquered Tough Mudder and lived to tell about it! Hoorah!
I have officially signed up to enter Tough Mudder on July 12th in Andover, NY. Yup, I’m putting my body on the line again for a terrific cause. I’m taking on Tough Mudder to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Serious running, gym sessions, training, and conditioning is starting this week. 10-12 miles and over 20-25 military style obstacles encompass this event so I better get in shape. Now, I know what people are thinking. It’s the holiday season coming up. There will be all types of evilly delicious bad foods and sugary delicacies all around and ready to ambush me at every turn. Dude, half your blog is food porn! Actually, for me it’s the perfect time as it will offer a good reason to not be lured into all the bad eating and drinking. I am sure I will be enticed along the way and succumb a bit. I am a sucker for seduction! Thanksgiving and vacations are coming up. Hey, I still have to enjoy life you know!
Please join in, and help me reach this goal.
As a relative of those who have served and are currently serving it is an honor to help with this amazing cause. We need to support our wounded servicemen and women who have given so much to protect and fight for our freedom. Tough Mudder is all about overcoming obstacles, together. Your support will help me reach this fundraising goal and help others overcome their own obstacles.
I salute all those who have served and overcome so much, but know that many still have a long ways to go. The Wounded Warrior Project is a wonderful cause and does so much to help these people who have sacrificed so much for our country.
