Hot dang, even though I have been here a few times now I’m finally writing a review for Joe’s Bar. What the heck is wrong with me? This is one of the best spots on the Upper West Side of NYC to chill out at! Just let me extrapolate on their attributes hopefully without sounding like a love crazed fangirl.
Tasty burgers. Even though I am no longer eating red meat I can still rave about the juicy goodness of their cheeseburgers here. Oh, and the bowl of fries is damn skippy too!
If you love a solid selection of quality craft beers then Amity Hall in the Greenwich Village part of NYC is a terrific choice to start off your night. It you can’t stand the yuppy, preppy, frat boy crowd then for sure get here early to start off your evening. Our group did this not too long ago and quaffed down some tasty brews and ciders before making our escape to further escapades in the city.
The place itself looks great with a below street level pub area, and a much larger upstairs beer hall type room. Nice decor with brick walls, wooden bench seating, and chalkboard beer lists showing off the day’s selections. A few large flat screens in each room but not too many to make this a spots bar. It’s all about the beer here. Long lines of taps are behind each bar sporting an impressive array of craft libations.
We started off in the downstairs pub area and then moved to the upper level when it opened around 5pm. Found that many of the tables up there were already reserved but we commandeered a small bench in front of a fireplace that was just the right size for our group of happy campers. When we were handed the beer menu I was impressed. Really nice selection of beers and ciders. You have to love a $4 pint craft beer happy hour until 7pm! Yes, 12pm- 7pm! Also $4 mixed drinks and daily specials too. Continue reading Get your brewski on at Amity Hall in NYC!→
It’s not every day that you get to dine in extravagance within the realm of a celebrity chef. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Such was the case not too long ago when we spent a three-day wild weekend in Atlantic City, NJ.
The only thing that could have made this event even better is if Gordon Ramsay himself came over and cursed us out. Mr Hell’s Kitchen himself could not have made this extra special top-secret tasting event more exceptional, but having a seating as guests of the event organizers themselves sitting at their table sharing a fabulous off-the-hook dinner was pretty mega-star in itself! Yeah, we special!
Located where the old Mia restaurant was in Caesars AC the new Gordon Ramsay Pub &Grill is a breath of fresh air, and a must needed boost to the tired scene that was here. Loved the design and layout of the place. Think British pub type dark woods and flair. Big bar and plenty of seating all around. Wonderful decor and ambiance. We were escorted by a hostess to a private dining room where we were greeted, and about 20-25 or so other hand selected participants joined us. Little did we know what we were about to experience, but the culinary delight that followed blew away all expectations! We thought this was going to be a tasting, but in fact turned out to be a full sit down four course dinner! Including drinks, cocktails, beer, wine! OMG! Just being invited to this made traveling down early on a Friday to Atlantic City so even more worth it. We were in shock and awe as the full cocktail offerings and special dinner menu was placed before us. Continue reading Feasting at Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill in Atlantic City!→
Ok, to me it’s more like 3.5 stars, and I’m not all goo goo gushy about The Penrose as most are who seem to rave about the place, yet I’ll bump it to 4 stars for the cocktails! Sure, it’s a wonderful addition to the exploding UES/Yorkville bar and foodie scene but there is something about this place that baffles me. It’s as if The Penrose is trying too hard to be trendy and cool, along with a lot of the clientele here. It’s filled with the trust fund popped collar crowd on the weekends and the type of women you’d find in sororities and Gossip Girl type shows. Mainly, it is a 20-something gathering spot which fills with the type of clientele one can expect from the UES. Trendy, fashionable, but casual too. Not really frat boy but not too far removed either. That being said, The Penrose is helping to elevate the bar scene up here which is a terrific thing.Continue reading The Penrose – a bit of downtown cocktail vibe on the UES.→
