4DX is an awesome way to see an action or sci-fi movie! It’s like being on a ride at Universal Studios for two hours! A bit pricey at almost $30 a ticket but worth it for a specific flick. Definitely a way to do a dinner and movie night with some friends. You’ll be laughing the whole time.
Thanks to Yelp we were able to experience Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 on 4DX as part of a Yelp Elite event and was blown away by how much fun it was. Free popcorn and soda was also a nice perk! At times I did see someone’s popcorn go flying here and there. Bouncy Bouncy! Continue reading The 4DX Movie Experience. This NYC Guy Approves!
I had a pretty good Sunday night all things considered. I know that most of the country were sitting in bars, attending parties, or perched like zombies in front of their TV’s while drinking beer and eating high caloric snacks. There was some sort of big game on that evening. I don’t know as this is one of those nights that I look forward to all year to go out. In peace and quiet. Let me explain. I purposely don’t even pay attention to the game. The commercials now pretty much suck. Two teams I could care less about play in it. The half time show is an abomination and features crappy pop acts that make me want to gag. Seriously, it’s a waste of a whole night for me. I’d rather hit the gym then wash up and head out to a nice restaurant followed by seeing a good movie. You have to understand that living here in NYC we are constantly surrounded by a population of 8 million people who are everywhere. There is hardly ever a time that we are truly alone out in public. Add in the thousands of tourists that jam into the city all year long and it’s a total clusterfuck of humanity here. I sometimes daydream about having this all turn into a zombie apocalypse where I roam the streets hacking off their heads. Also, it’s the slow zombies not those crazy running video game zombies. Eff that. The more I kill the less people there are crowding into everything. I score extra points for lopping off the craniums of undead tourists too! I’ll admit that I did not watch the Super Bowl. Nope, not one minute, not one play, not even a peek. You must all be asking how is that possible? Blasphemy! This is an American holiday now. How can you not watch? It’s the big game! The epicenter of all sports tv programming! The monster truck show climax of the NFL season! The big cheese! The big sombrero! For the whole enchilada! Ole’!
Hmmm…..I am suddenly craving some Mexican for lunch today. Tacos maybe? A burrito? I hope the bathroom at work will be empty later. Gonna be ugly. Wait….what was I talking about? Oh yeah, that football game that was played Sunday night. Get back on track Phil and stop getting veered off course by thoughts of delicious food. As I was saying it is a fact that I did not watch any of the Super Bowl this past Sunday, and honestly by seeing the final score and highlights (or lowlights if you’re a Broncos fan) I did not miss anything at all! This was an embarrassing abomination of a game. One of my friends said it best – “They should label the Broncos as the new Keystone Cops of the Super Bowl and play the old Benny Hill theme music over the highlights.” I do have to offer congrats to the Seattle Seahawks being crowned Super Bowl Champions as they totally destroyed Denver and left no doubt on that playing field. Yet, other than if you’re a Seahawks fan what joy is there of watching a boring non-competitive game of 43-8? After seeing the post-game updates on ESPN this game was literally over after the botched opening snap by Denver within the first 12 seconds! Continue reading So, did they start playing the Super Bowl yet?
Great hidden spot on the UES / Yorkville for tiki like cocktails in a lounge setting. It’s almost as if a prohibition era speakeasy was mutated with a tiki bar dashed with a bit of the Maltese Falcon thrown in for good measure. When we walked in here I thought I had entered a bar somewhere downtown, but was so surprised that it’s in my hood!
More and more of these terrific spots are opening up around here and it’s another nice addition to the burgeoning bar scene that seems to be happening in the area. Why schlep all the way downtown and back when locally there are so many choice bars around here now? Some nights you just want to stay close to home.
