Frank in NYC is a cozy and homey Italian kitschy looking place with some outside seating. Can be somewhat cramped as this is a popular spot, and on a nice weather night people want to eat at the sidewalk tables. Hey, we all know it’s a NYC thing that we all love. Just put your name on the list and do the hover like a senior citizen waiting to jump on that penny slot machine as soon as someone gets off. The Evil Eye is all too real!
Sitting outside and eating pizza on a beautiful Spring Day in NYC. One of the joys of life here in the big city.
We have all been there. You walk by a spot seemingly hundreds of times and never notice it. If you do, then you never bother to give it a try. One late afternoon the weather was too good to pass by again, and a table was beckoning to us to take a seat at Olio e Piu.
While wandering around the West Village we stopped by this resto for an early dinner. I can’t even count the amount of times I had walked by this place, but so glad the aroma of pizza and Italian food lured us in. As it was a perfectly sunny day out and not too hot we sat on the outside patio seating which is kind of picturesque with all the flowers and plants adorning the space. A friendly waiter handed us menus and told us about some specials. We were having none of that! Just hand over the pizza and back away slowly. Back away! Mmmmm…..fresh made pasta! Carbs Carbs Carbs! Wonderful Carbs! Joyous carbs!
Hey, even though we are eating healthy and employing a more nutrition based intake nowadays doesn’t mean giving up on eating out and indulging a bit. We just decided to do it on a once a week basis, and pick out a new joint that we haven’t chowed down at before. Even so, there are plenty of spots here in NYC that offers up some delicious grub with a healthier kick to it. You just have to show some restraint and not give into sinful desires!
We happened on a restaurant called Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina. Located in the Chelsea Market we decided to give it a try for dinner while sauntering around the area as I took the day off for my birthday a few weeks ago. After walking around the High Line elevated garden and park we had a hungering for something to nourish our souls. Turned out to be a solid choice.
The market has some really nifty places to shop and dine at. We were drawn into here by the terrific selection of multi-colored and multi-flavored freshly made pastas in the displays. To dine in, or take out and prepare at home. After a full afternoon of strolling around the Chelsea/Meatpacking District area some carbs seemed like perfect way to replenish our energy packs. Or just to fill our bellies! Continue reading Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina – Carb Love in NYC!→
NYC used to be a haven for Italian spots like Dominick’s up in the Bronx. Very old world, and kind of like eating at your great nonna’s home with the 70’s pictures hanging on the wood paneling in the living room while seated at the kiddie table. Man, that brings back memories.
Just a no frills place with little decoration or ambiance, long family style tables that you will share with others on the main floor, but it has a certain old school charm to it. Heck, they don’t even have a website. The bathrooms are upstairs on the second floor seating area which looks like a nice place for large parties, but I heard it’s hardly ever used.
