POP! There Goes My Achy Breaky Hamstring!

It’s no secret that I truly enjoy a good 5K run. At this stage and era of my life it seems to fit me quite well. It’s a perfect run length for staying fit, burning calories, and offering the chance to stay mildly athletic while competing in occasional weekend races. I consistently keep my pace below a ten minute mile, and many times close to a 9:30 on average nowadays. That’s ok by me.

Over the course of the past year and a half I have completed 25 or so races now, along with many evenings or mornings of training runs of three to five miles. I have pushed it now and then to a 10K distance and a few 8-10 mile runs when mentally and physically I felt up for it. I have been extremely lucky in that I have incurred very few injuries other than some muscle soreness here and there. Nothing to impede my running. That is until recently when I pretty much blew out my hamstring at the Hard Grove 5K in New Jersey. Continue reading POP! There Goes My Achy Breaky Hamstring!

Riding Hell in a Handbasket all the way to NYC

You ever go through a day and wonder where has all the time gone?

It’s become one of those days that even if I cloned myself there would still not be enough time to get everything done. I am sitting here taking a breather while wolfing down lunch just to type this while on another window trying to answer all my emails. It’s a repetitive vicious cycle that never seems to end. On one side I feel as if I’m all caught up and raring to go as if I’m pumped up on Viagra and Red Bull, and then on the other I’m all limp as a wet noodle running in quicksand and just can’t get invigorated enough to jump over the hump. My brain feels like a bowl of jello, and not one of the good flavors. More like that green lime monstrosity that no one really seems to like. Maybe I need a mental health day soon. A day to chill out with a few drinks and lay in the sun. I really don’t take enough days off. Maybe it’s just me but I feel that if I take a well deserved day off now and now everything will end up as “Hell in a Handbasket”. Then it’s more of a shit show to deal with when I get back. I need a day soon.

Even then, as I close my eyes and let that warm sun drench my face the bluebird of happiness would probably take a seagull sized dump on my head. Isn’t life swell? Continue reading Riding Hell in a Handbasket all the way to NYC

Buca di Beppo for fun Italian with the Pope in AC!

l (6)

Wow – the reviews of this place vary wildly from what I have read on different sites. From satisfied patrons to outright hatred. All I can say is that when my merry group of diners and myself ate here recently we had a terrific time with good service and decent food. That’s all you can ask for when eating at a chain resto like Buca di Beppo in Bally’s casino.

Don’t go in thinking it will be a Michelin star rated joint, and just know that it is what it is – a chain Italian spot. Lower expectations a bit and enjoy a meal in a lighthearted amusing atmosphere. Sucks for those that can’t deal with that and had a bad experience at this location. All I can say is that we all had a great time and walked out stuffed and mainly satisfied on our last jaunt to Atlantic City, NJ.

As a bunch of us were here recently during the Yelp AC Winter Getaway weekend event I decided to reserve a table for twelve since it would also be my BDay weekend, and a good time to relax with a group of friends over a fun dinner and wine.  It was during the AC restaurant week promotion, so we ate at RW prices which were a nifty deal at $33.15 a person. More than enough on the menu to choose from, and the portions were actually quite large and filling. Decent enough wine list with different price points too. Now that we are in the doldrums of the winter season up here in the NYC area many people hunker down and stay close to home. Call it the comfort food and cozy abode season if we will. Yet, there are still some fun quick getaways to lure one out and help warm up these chilly weekends. A few hours down the turnpike brings us to Atlantic City, NJ, and even though it’s not the height of their summer season, there is plenty much to do here that will fill up your weekend during the cold months. With an abundance of restaurants, lounges, and clubs there is something for everyone. It’s not all about gambling but of course that is another enjoyable option!

After checking into your hotel no matter where you stay in AC go take a stroll through The Quarter Shops at the Tropicana. I had remembered coming here when this new mall area first opened ten years ago, and it had been quite a while since we last visited. It was surprising to see that out of the original shops that had opened around 18 of the 24 were still in business. Overall, there are about 40 stores, nine restaurants, eleven nightclubs, and more to explore and experience. When we were here during the holiday season it was decorated and there were some free events and shows to enjoy. It’s a great area to see a show, pick up some gifts, do some shopping, have a cocktail, or settle in for a nice dinner. Continue reading Dinner! Drinks! Get funky and boogie down in Atlantic City!
