Muy Delicioso! Get your Mexican fill at El Paso in El Barrio NYC

Muy Delicioso! Living far uptown on the Upper East Side right below Spanish Harlem it’s a quick trek for us to head a bit north and discover some new joints to dine at in NYC.

As we decided during a nice day on a past weekend to wander around East Harlem a bit and hang out in El Barrio we definitely got hungry for a good dinner and craved some tasty Mexican eats. That is when we came across El Paso Restaurante Mexicano.

What a wonderfully decorated restaurant! You can tell they put some time and effort into the decor here – artwork, statues, ceiling beams, lighting, colors, nice bar and tables, etc. Even the bathrooms with a communal sink area had a cool design. There is even an enclosed outdoor back room which was also nicely decorated and looks like it would also be great for parties. It all projects a feeling of warmth and coziness. Happy White People Getting Drunk Day! Cinco de Mayo!

Cinco de Mayo

Happy White People Getting Drunk Day!

Here we are again at another borderline holiday that really makes no sense at all here in NYC, or in all of the United States really. It’s just another excuse for white people, bro’s and fratties, among legions of suburbanites, to go out and get shit-faced on cheap tequila, margaritas, and Coronas! Now, I’m not saying that myself or my friends have never done the sombrero crawl on May 5th partying it up for Cinco de Mayo, but I’m pretty much over the amateur hour of drunkenness to celebrate a long ago Mexican battle. The date is actually observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s improbable victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It’s a sense of pride for many in that country. It is NOT Mexico’s Independence Day, which is on September 16th. Just sayin’.

Then again, does anyone really care here in the States? Not really, as it’s just another reason to go out after work and get polluted while eating at bad Mexican restaurants and feasting on nachos and tacos. We all love tacos! There are so many ways to make them – meat, fish, vegan – that there is something for everyone’s tastes. Helps soak up all the booze too. Here’s another fun fact – it’s also Taco Tuesday! Ringing in the New Year with Boozy Brunch at Maya in NYC!

Lost track of all those Spicy Bloody Marys I drank!

Unlimited booze and food brunch on New Years Day! Happy New Year to me! We loves our unlimited boozy brunches here in NYC. Any reason to get liquored up in the afternoon is a good thing!

I set up this boozy brunch on New Years Day for a group of us since most stayed in on NYE. Heck, going out that night is amateur hour anyway and overpriced at best.

Had a 1:30 reservation and were seated around 2:00. No biggie, as I knew it would be crowded here. Unlimited brunch is for two hours and we were told they would not kick us out at 4:00 when it ended. Hey, for $39 it’s basically a steal. Unlimited cocktails of all types and family style plates of tapas on the whole menu. Yes, the WHOLE menu. There is a lot to choose from here. I really loved the spicy bloody mary and the mango mimosa. Those went down way too easy! Plus, they certainly did not skimp on the booze! I also tried the lychee mimosa and the tequila spiked agua fresca. A few traditional margaritas also made it into my mouth. Wowza! I drank a lot of booze in those two hours.
