Feasting at Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill in Atlantic City!

l (4)

It’s not every day that you get to dine in extravagance within the realm of a celebrity chef. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Such was the case not too long ago when we spent a three-day wild weekend in Atlantic City, NJ.

The only thing that could have made this event even better is if Gordon Ramsay himself came over and cursed us out. Mr Hell’s Kitchen himself could not have made this extra special top-secret tasting event more exceptional, but having a seating as guests of the event organizers themselves sitting at their table sharing a fabulous off-the-hook dinner was pretty mega-star in itself! Yeah, we special!

Located where the old Mia restaurant was in Caesars AC the new Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill is a breath of fresh air, and a must needed boost to the tired scene that was here. Loved the design and layout of the place. Think British pub type dark woods and flair. Big bar and plenty of seating all around. Wonderful decor and ambiance. We were escorted by a hostess to a private dining room where we were greeted, and about 20-25 or so other hand selected participants joined us. Little did we know what we were about to experience, but the culinary delight that followed blew away all expectations! We thought this was going to be a tasting, but in fact turned out to be a full sit down four course dinner! Including drinks, cocktails, beer, wine! OMG! Just being invited to this made traveling down early on a Friday to Atlantic City so even more worth it. We were in shock and awe as the full cocktail offerings and special dinner menu was placed before us. Continue reading Feasting at Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill in Atlantic City!

There can be only one Brisket King of NYC!

Brisket King Returns March 16, 2015! Hail to the King baby!

There is nothing more I love to eat than some tasty meat. Now that we are in the dead of winter here in the Northeast and there is a lack of outdoor meaty BBQ activities I’m hankering for a few slabs of smoky beefy goodness. Well, it just so happens that the day before all things green arrives – green beer, green food, green outfits, and drunk leprechauns with St Paddy’s Day here in NYC  – we are being treated with all things BRISKET!

Brisket King returns for a third year to a larger venue! Where else to crown the King of Brisket than in Kings County? That’s right, they are heading for Brooklyn (Fort Greene) where 20+ chefs will compete for the glory of beef! Lip smacking, finger licking, juicy, melt in your mouth brisket!

Anticipated chefs/restaurants to be present (subject to change): Continue reading There can be only one Brisket King of NYC!

The Burger Bistro – The Joy of Tots & Unicorn Farts in NYC.

Tater tots ease the pain of life’s follies and miseries. Tots make life happy and worth living. Biting into one makes me see unicorns and fart rainbows. Happy Happy! Joy Joy!

When I heard that a Burger Bistro was opening up shop here on the UES in Yorkville NYC I was ecstatic. I had been to their Brooklyn location and really enjoyed what they had to offer. This part of Manhattan is undergoing a tremendous change with terrific bars and eateries finding homes up here. More and more I really don’t see the need to schlep downtown, or to another borough to partake in good food and quality cocktails, especially now that I can get a craft beer and terrific burger a few blocks away from my apartment! Cooperstown Diner – where you get a meatloaf as a burger!

l (3)

I’m a diner kind of guy and to me there is nothing wrong with an occasional trek into one to have some filling sloppy comfort food. The Cooperstown Diner was a recent find that totally satiated my lunch cravings for something big to chow down on.

Of course, when we were in Cooperstown recently and walked by this tiny looking brick faced diner I was enticed to venture in by the chalkboard proclaiming their famous burgers. I love old school joints like this that seem to be disappearing across the land. It’s a shame as these places scream “Americana” and deserve to be preserved for all to enjoy.

OK, I will admit the place is a bit grimy looking and could use a coat of paint but it’s also charming in it’s own way. A bit narrow and tight with some tables and counter seating so it can be a bit of a wait when crowded as it was when we walked in. Literally, it seats about 20 people tops. Seemed like a bunch of regulars were there, the townies, mixed in with a few of us tourist folk. Signage on the walls listing the daily dinner specials and breakfast is served all day which is a win in my book.

We both ordered the burger with curly fries and tater tots. Good God Man! What the heck is that thing? It looked like a meatloaf between two buns! This beast was a massive hunk of meat that actually scared me a bit. With nervous laughter we dug in and were surprised at how juicy and tasty the burger was. Curly fries were decent but I wish I had ordered the tater tots. Always order the tots. We rolled out of there and had to take a walk to digest a bit after that meat attack. Plus, I had to drive back to Manhattan and needed to wake myself from the coma before I passed out and swerved off the road.  Continue reading Cooperstown Diner – where you get a meatloaf as a burger!
