Sometimes you read and come across some strange things during the course of the week.
I just read a news article about a hot dog vendor here in NYC that is selling those dirty water dogs along with hot pretzels for $30. Yes – thirty freaking dollars! Are you kidding me? Now, I can see paying maybe $2 for one of those belly bombers but this insane. Obviously, he is feasting upon visitors from overseas that know no better, and even though I’m not a huge fan of most annoying tourists, along with the bridge and tunnel suburbanite crowd that piles into the city on the weekends, even I would put a stop to this jerk if I saw him trying to rip off someone like this. Heck, even I have a bit of ethics in me believe it or not. Maybe sell it for $10…….
Another thing I read today was the story of how a girl’s sweet 16 party was bombarded by flying poop out of the sky! The family and friends were having a get together for her big birthday when feces just came out of the heavens and rained down upon them. They are assuming it was from a plane that had passed and somehow unloaded it’s crapper. Now, my mom and older relatives would always say it’s good luck when a bird poops on you, but I wonder if that would also hold true if big ‘ol Billy Bob dumped his bowels on your head from way up high? About this time last year I wrote a post regarding the real meaning of Memorial Day and how it’s more than just about BBQ’s and partying. Sure, as Americans we all work hard and deserve to enjoy a long holiday weekend. The decision to do just that is one of the simple pleasures that our armed forces have fought for, and affords us the freedom to make our own choices of how we want to live. We should all be thankful for the sacrifices our brave men and women in service have made – past, present, and future. Many have died during duty to our nation and for those we should all offer a nod of thanks and remember them on this day. Freedom is not free and does come at a price. Let’s not forget that while we are having our fun this weekend.
My gal’s brother is in the Air Force and at this time last year he received orders that he was being sent over to Afganistan for another tour of duty. After many months there he returned home safe and sound, and now is back here in the states with his wife for good we hope. While hopefully enjoying some cold beers and tasty BBQ himself this weekend. He’s earned it.

Very often, the holiday spirit of giving is in our hearts, but it can be difficult to know when, where, and how we can help others in need at this time of year. With that in mind, Oz Moving has put together a map of locations where you can drop off new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children who are less fortunate. They have researched and mapped several reputable charitable organizations to help these gifts reach their destinations.
With a few good helpers from New York City and the surrounding areas we can deliver a little bit of holiday happiness to those less fortunate. If you’re interested in helping make someone’s holiday a whole lot happier, please take a look at the map below and find out where you can make your donation.
Toys for Tots is collecting toys to donate to less fortunate children throughout New York City this holiday season. Oz Moving has partnered with Toys for Tots to create an interactive map of NYC that lists toy drop off locations in the NYC metro area. Our goal is to make it easier for people that are looking to donate toys, and find the closest drop off location to them. I have officially signed up to enter Tough Mudder on July 12th in Andover, NY. Yup, I’m putting my body on the line again for a terrific cause. I’m taking on Tough Mudder to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Serious running, gym sessions, training, and conditioning is starting this week. 10-12 miles and over 20-25 military style obstacles encompass this event so I better get in shape. Now, I know what people are thinking. It’s the holiday season coming up. There will be all types of evilly delicious bad foods and sugary delicacies all around and ready to ambush me at every turn. Dude, half your blog is food porn! Actually, for me it’s the perfect time as it will offer a good reason to not be lured into all the bad eating and drinking. I am sure I will be enticed along the way and succumb a bit. I am a sucker for seduction! Thanksgiving and vacations are coming up. Hey, I still have to enjoy life you know!
Please join in, and help me reach this goal.
As a relative of those who have served and are currently serving it is an honor to help with this amazing cause. We need to support our wounded servicemen and women who have given so much to protect and fight for our freedom. Tough Mudder is all about overcoming obstacles, together. Your support will help me reach this fundraising goal and help others overcome their own obstacles.
I salute all those who have served and overcome so much, but know that many still have a long ways to go. The Wounded Warrior Project is a wonderful cause and does so much to help these people who have sacrificed so much for our country.
