American Craft Beer Extravaganza! So much beer to choose from and so little time to drink them all!

One does not simply walk into the Pony Bar expecting to order an imported beer. Well, actually, they just don’t have any here. American beers all the way baby! It was quite fitting to down a few here not too long ago on the 4th of July.

This new outpost of beer love is a terrific addition to the UES neighborhood we reside at in NYC and has already become a hot spot. With over 20 rotating beers on tap there is more than enough diversity for everyone’s palate. Ciders and cask beers too. All of the beers are a ridiculously affordable $6 each. Yes, all of them! It’s cray cray! So while the frat boys were downing $8 Heinekens and lame Bud Lights at the many bars in the area I was enjoying some mighty tasty craft beers here. Empire, Smuttynose, Dale’s, Ommegang, Boulder, Barrier, Kona, Coney Island, Southampton, and Abita are just a few that we happily imbibed. The Dan Band – Funny. Obscene. Female Pop in NYC!

Sometimes you just want to see a bunch of guys up on a stage sing female rock and pop anthems. When that bunch of guys just happens to be The Dan Band you know you’re in for a rollicking good time with plenty of laughs thrown in. I was lucky enough to have scored a few blogger press passes for last night’s opening show of their four date residency at the fabulous Stage 48 event space. Dan Finnerty and his group of hired guns certainly did not disappoint while whipping the crowd into a frenzy of guffaws and sing alongs.

OM – Nom Nom Nom on the Upper East Side in NYC!

I have been on a kick to try out some different taste sensations lately and have been eyeing this place from afar recently. Last night I decided that we were going to give Om Restaurant a try as I was craving Indian fare. Sure glad we did as this was a feast fitting for a Maharaja!

On weekend nights this place is packed as it’s a narrow little eatery with only about 13-15 tables in it that seats two at a time. I figured Monday night would be a good call and when we dropped by it was still pretty busy, but we easily found a seat. The aroma of delicious curry and spices filling the air is intoxicating when you walk in, and immediately sets off your taste buds tingling with anticipation. The decor is understated, bright and clean, yet simple and elegant at the same time. Continue reading OM – Nom Nom Nom on the Upper East Side in NYC!

Travel for 4th of July? Are you nuts? I’ll stay right here in NYC!

I5tM7mxqNIf you are one of the thousands that look to the July 4th holiday weekend as a time to head out on vacation, BBQ, spend time with family, or to just kick back and enjoy the lazy days of summer then by all means have at it. We here in NYC are already experiencing the annual “bug out” of city that happens every year during this holiday. Almost everyone makes a mad dash to pack, grab a car, plane or train, and head out to the Jersey shore, Hamptons, or some beach somewhere. Watching the news this morning they showed reports of crowded airports and bumper to bumper roadways. I used to be one of those robots that thought it was a must to jump into that holiday travel nightmare. I used to sit in my car traveling at a snail’s pace, or in an airport with screaming kids and flight delays, paying for overpriced hotel rooms and gasoline price gauging. I used to try and justify it all in my mind saying that this is what everyone does, so it’s cool to be doing it too. The pain of travel is part of the adventure. Then I remembered that we would also have to suffer through this Hell a few days later heading home. Nothing is worse than the torture of knowing you have to go back to work drained and exhausted from that long trip home. Continue reading Travel for 4th of July? Are you nuts?
