Food. Just the word, thought, and sight of it, elicits many emotions and viewpoints. Happiness, insecurity, comfort, hate, and many more.
If you are a fan of, or know of, Lisa Lampanelli and her comedic style you are aware of her raunchiness and “in your face” stand up routine. If you went in expecting that you were disappointed. This was a surprisingly tempered performance, and offered way more drama and human insight than laughs and guffaws. Body image was on the agenda, along with a discussion of foods we all know and clamor for whether during happy times, or as crutch during sad moments in life. I swear, there is nothing more infuriating to a New Yorker than being held captive by a mass transit system constantly on the verge of major collapse.
We here in the NYC area, millions of us, rely on the MTA subway system to get us back and forth to our places of employment every day, week, and month. In a timely manner. LOL – yeah, and I’m gonna be the next big Hollywood action star! Get to da choppa!
Yet, here I was, along with my sweat stained brethren and sisters once again left jam-packed on a subway platform to nowhere. Oh, this one was a doozy. Totally unforeseen as we descended to the underground platforms that had become as hot as Beelzebub’s anal cavity since we were just coming off a 90 degree weekend. Dammit, it’s Autumn! It’s not supposed to be this hot out. Yet, here we all were, a sweaty mass of humanity aligned shoulder to shoulder resembling fish in sardine can. ( and some people smelling like one – c’mon people use deodorant! ) Waiting. Waiting. More waiting.
Help? Continue reading Monday Funday – Greetings From the MTA!
So much beer. As soon as I walked into Draught 55 in NYC I knew this joint lives up to its name. The beer list itself takes up two pages. I might have to revisit this place over and over to try them all!
I recently dropped in here with a friend to catch up on things. Epic beer list! $5 happy hour with a select list of brews, cocktails, wine until 8pm daily. I do wish they offered a more robust selection for the beers during HH, as only having a few available considering the monster beer list was kind of a big tease. With the amount of beer on tap I am sure they could add a few more for happy hour. Hey guys, make it happier! Continue reading Draught 55 in NYC lives up to it’s name!
I had a chance to attend a performance of Curvy Widow as part of a Yelp Night event recently.
Now, I know my rating might seem a bit lower than many who also viewed it, but I need to go with my gut feelings and be honest with my thoughts of this show. Maybe it was because perhaps the content matter was just something I could not totally relate to.
The show itself seemed skewed to an older demographic of a specific age category and gender. In my opinion, this is the type of show to take your 55 years and older mothers, aunts, grandparents, and female relatives. Seemed the majority of the crowd fit this profile on the night I was there. Nothing wrong with that at all, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Others might find it enjoyable and entertaining, especially if they can relate to the subject matter which has to do with being a widower dating after decades of marriage suddenly ending.
