I finally popped my Maoz cherry! So many times I walked by this place down in Union Square NYC, saw all the rave reviews on Yelp, but did not drop in to try it out. It was my first time yesterday for lunch and discovered a terrific falafel sandwich and sweet potato fries! Hot damn this was good. My taste buds approved of this healthier option that I was putting into my mouth. Yummers!
Sure, it’s not too often that I write about the healthier eats in and around NYC but at times I need to give my overtaxed digestive system a break. A meatless lunch. No bacon. No nitrates. Nothing that moos or oinks. Consider it a sort of cleansing. My body thanks me. My intestinal tract thanks me. My butthole thanks me.
One of the fun perks of having a blog are the opportunities to receive invites to events and new product launches. Residing in NYC offers many chances to experience these types of gatherings as it is the media capital and many PR agencies reside here, or come here to gain plentiful exposure. One event I was recently invited to was to sample a new home soda maker that is hitting the market in July. It’s always fun to check out a new product before the public gets a chance to see it, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with this one. The company is called Mastrad and their product is the Pure Fizz soda maker. They are a leading company based in Paris, France, and offer many kitchen specific products for both amateur and pro use.
The event took place at the stylish and chic Eventi Hotel in midtown Manhattan. We were led to a suite converted into a showcase for the Pure Fizz and also for many of Mastrad’s line of kitchenware offerings. They manufacture a variety of fun and functional products for those who are into cooking and baking. We were able to test some out and I will admit to liking their design and ease of use. Great tools for those who enjoy being in the kitchen, and for those of us who live in small NYC apartments and have limited storage space. Continue reading Getting all fizzy in NYC! Now that fall has arrived here in the Northeast the temperatures are dipping, the sunny days are shorter, and it also becomes a good time to re-evaluate eating habits. It’s very easy to fall into that trap of eating more of a comfort food diet during the colder weather while consuming many more calories. We all become creatures of habit and hibernate a bit during the fall and winter season as the warmer sunny days dwindle away. That being said, it’s also a good time to try out different varieties of food, and there are many vegan options out there to discover, especially when one gets tired of the “meat and potatoes” meals many of us eat in the winter season. One such place I discovered recently was Cafe Blossom located in the West Village, NYC. I openly admit to being a ravenous carnivore and prefer meat based meals, but many times over the past few years I have found a few vegan restaurants to be highly acceptable to my palate while serving up delicious plates of meatless fare. Eating vegan is good for a chance of pace, while also being on the healthier side, and can taste flavorful too. Here is a recent discovery of mine that I was awarded Review Of The Day on Yelp for.
Cafe Blossom –
I know that I should eat a bit more of a “cleaner” diet and sometimes I get the urge to try out going vegan/vegetarian, but the meat eater in me is in a constant battle with that thinking. It’s like I have a devil sitting on one shoulder and an angel on the other constantly at odds. Well, at least for one night the angel won.Cafe Blossom made me totally think that I could actually enjoy the organic vegan lifestyle. Too bad I could never really cook the delicious plates that I tasted last night!
