The Summer of Moist Running Continues…..

This summer season has been brutal to runners along the upper Eastern part of the U.S. Here in NYC it has been constant rain and humid conditions. Not sure about how the rest of the country has been faring, but if you reside anywhere in the Middle Atlantic states you have been in a constant battle with swamp-ass and moist nether regions.

No amount of baby powder or anti-chafing balm is gonna cure this! Believe me, as most dudes go, I apply so much baby powder I walk out of the bathroom looking like the I fell into a vat of flour. My gal also wants to strangle me as she can’t stand the layer of powder on everything in the bathroom. Continue reading The Summer of Moist Running Continues…..

Moist Running and Monday being EXTRA in NYC!

Quoting some lyrics from my favorite band, Iron Maiden – “Run to the Hills! Run for your lives”!

This past week I ran in two more racing events put together by New York Road Runners (NYRR), and it was a mixed bag of swamp-ass weather running, and retro good times! NYRR are the leading running organization in NYC, and they put on some well-organized events. Terrific leadership, and the volunteers at each race do a great job!

The first event was the Retro 4 Miler in Central Park. I always enjoy running here, as it’s close to home, and a spot I know quite well as I have put many miles in on those paths and roads around the park. You could not ask for a better Saturday summer morning in NYC. Sunny, breezy and not too warm out. The conditions were just perfect to get in a solid run. Plus, this was a one of their themed races. Classic cars, rock bands playing classic tunes, photo booth in a VW van, and an old-school Good Humor truck dispensing one of my favs, Fla-Vor-Ice popsicles! Conquering Half Marathons and Shart Fears!

 

Over the past two years that I have adapted a running regimen into my fitness training I have overcome many obstacles. Every person who runs goes through the same mental and physical stumbling blocks as they persist onward in pursuit of their running game.

Pretty much this is a snapshot of my progression –

Can I get motivated enough to get off the couch when that bag of Cheetos is seducing me?

I hate running!

Why does a 5K have to be 3.1 miles?

What do you mean there are no beer stands along the way to the finish line? I must wait until I’m done?

It was shrinkage, Jerry! Shrinkage! It was cold outside!

Holy crap, what the heck am I doing out here in 26 degree weather? I think I’ve made a huge mistake!

My slightly warped mind always seems to head back to that episode of Seinfeld. Whenever I am subjected to some pretty brutal weather conditions which makes my nether regions retreat up into my body like a turtle hiding in it’s shell. When it’s that cold outside in NYC, “shrinkage” is the appropriate reasoning for any gent trying to defend the rationale of “diminished manhood”!
