I love The Duck – a trashy weirdo dive bar in NYC!

IMG_20130704_191656_096Words just can’t describe my new found love for this craptacular bar! I mean, it has a freaking toilet as it’s profile picture on review sites. How can you not love a dive bar that gives new meaning to what a dive is supposed to be about? Oddly unique, yet you feel afraid for your safety just a bit, but still drawn to it like a drug addict trapped in a crack house.

Um, what is this dark weird little fake bar before a bar that you have to pass through to get to The Duck? Is this a dive speakeasy kind of thing? Some beefy dude at the door checks your ID and lets you in. You meander through the empty faux bar in front to get to the entrance of the real bar.

Then it hits you when you walk in. What is this wonderful place that looks like a hospital or insane asylum basement dorm room decorated in the most makeshift way? It’s almost as if a bunch of drunk college kids watched Animal House and decided to make mom and dad’s basement a dive bar with crap they found on the side of the road or in a dumpster. There are wires, cables, extension cords, and surge protectors hanging all over the place. One short and the place goes up in a burst of flame! Beer signage, strange memorabilia, and old discarded bras hang on the wall and ceiling. Christmas lights. A few tables and chairs to sit at next to the bar. A pool table in front of a large projection flat screen from 1990 which I think is broken.  Continue reading I love The Duck – a trashy weirdo dive bar in NYC!

A sausagefest grows in Brooklyn NYC!

l

There is nothing like a good sausagefest! So I proclaimed over and over while shoving loads of delicious meaty sausage into my mauf! Give me MOAR!!!

Not kidding, this place knows how to rock the sausage. So many different varieties. Along with a killer craft beer list and great prices Rosamunde Sausage Grill should be on any sausage lovers list to visit. Along with cheapie Yelp Drinks Week going on I was enjoying $3 craft pints all night, and others were downing rum & house cola cocktails. Woo-Hoo! Bettibar NYC – a hidden speakeasy in tourist central!

There is just so much win about Bettibar that it astounds me since it’s located in the Theater District restaurant row area. Did we just happen to stumble upon a speakeasy type establishment in tourist central? OMG – this place is PURE WIN!

As we were proceeding on our night of drinking debauchery and were headed over to Hell’s Kitchen to bar hop a bit more and get a bite to eat I saw this hidden gem located next to the Hourglass Tavern. It’s actually owned by them. You have to ring the buzzer to be let in and then walk up a narrow flight of stairs to find Bettibar. You get the feeling of a secret little speakeasy that few people know about, and only those “in the know” really realize it’s there. I’m so happy to know about it now, since I love spots like this, and I am sure I will be there again soon! Continue reading Bettibar NYC – a hidden speakeasy in tourist central!
