Gotta love a speakeasy happy hour 4-6 pm Mon-Fri! $10 cocktails, smooth music and some old school flapper era jazz to set the mood. Terrific atmosphere and dimly lit ambiance. Such was the wonderful tone set here at the Flatiron Lounge in NYC.
The Maple Leaf is a nice choice if in a rye whiskey mood, and it goes down nice and easy. I walked in around 5:30 and ordered my first. Didn’t take much to twist my arm and order up a second a minute before happy hour ended. Some libations are worth hanging around for.
Superior bartenders, quality cocktails, and a classy throwback decor make this a must visit if shopping in the area and need some liquid relaxation after dropping cash on some retail therapy. I so needed this in my life at that point, as I was a pressure cooker about to explode after dealing with way too many annoying tourists crowding the stores getting in my way, along with the locals dragging crying kids and baby carriages along the sidewalks. Avenida Cantina? Why does this place seem so familiar?
Cheap, filling, and tasty Tex Mex in the space Idle Hands bar used to be. In these days NYC is constantly changing and evolving, yet it still took me by surprise when we wandered in here for some post happy hours eats and realized it was an old haunt of ours.
Upstairs dining area is totally repainted and redecorated in a bright cheerful decor but we still recognized the layout of a bar we had some good times at. Oh, the drunken memories! Idle Hands had a solid beer and whiskey list, rock and metal bar in a hovel of a basement lair downstairs, burger joint and tater tots to chow down on upstairs, along with a bunch of Yelp events we attended here. If you love a solid selection of quality craft beers then Amity Hall in the Greenwich Village part of NYC is a terrific choice to start off your night. It you can’t stand the yuppy, preppy, frat boy crowd then for sure get here early to start off your evening. Our group did this not too long ago and quaffed down some tasty brews and ciders before making our escape to further escapades in the city.
The place itself looks great with a below street level pub area, and a much larger upstairs beer hall type room. Nice decor with brick walls, wooden bench seating, and chalkboard beer lists showing off the day’s selections. A few large flat screens in each room but not too many to make this a spots bar. It’s all about the beer here. Long lines of taps are behind each bar sporting an impressive array of craft libations.
We started off in the downstairs pub area and then moved to the upper level when it opened around 5pm. Found that many of the tables up there were already reserved but we commandeered a small bench in front of a fireplace that was just the right size for our group of happy campers. When we were handed the beer menu I was impressed. Really nice selection of beers and ciders. You have to love a $4 pint craft beer happy hour until 7pm! Yes, 12pm- 7pm! Also $4 mixed drinks and daily specials too. Continue reading Get your brewski on at Amity Hall in NYC!→
I’m always up for a quality made libation! Very nice addition to the Murray Hill area close to where I work here in NYC. Middle Branch is the sister speakeasy cocktail joint to downtown Little Branch. Lacking the bro-fisting that is normally seen in bars around these parts it’s a classier choice to score a liquid refreshment. Heck, “Home On The Range” is a terrific cocktail, and at $12 a bit cheaper here than at most speakeasies in NYC!
Been here a few times now for an after work cocktail. As it’s kind of hidden in what looks to be just another residential brownstone you can easily walk by, but it’s not all that hard to find. There is a plaque on the face of the building with the letters MB along with a wrought iron fence that surrounds it. As it’s a two story place the open windows with patrons seen drinking during warmer weather kind of gives it away. Continue reading No Bro-Fisting. Just great cocktails at Middle Branch in NYC.→
