The Counter NYC – create your own burger feast!

o
Doing it my way with a veggie burger and salad combo. Pineapple for the win!

Yeah, yeah, I know. Here’s a guy who has quit eating red meats, steak, pork, bacon (my one regret), and burgers penning an opinion on a burger joint. In the godforsaken land known as NYC’s Disneyfied Times Square. How can he be so brazen? Really dude? Really bro?

Hey, don’t judge. I still like what I like and have an opinion. I am a New Yorker, so you know we all have one. Don’t know about all those giving this little joint sub par reviews on internet sites, and don’t really care, as I have to say during my visit here just recently in the tourist hell-hole known as “The Crossroads of the World” I kind of enjoyed my meal at The Counter in NYC.

Quick, courteous, and friendly service.

Clean and nicely air-conditioned. (Always a plus with me as I hate eating in swamp ass conditions.)

Small dining area with plenty of seating crammed in, and some counter spots by the tiny bar, but do-able overall. The high ceilings, large windows, and modern decor make it a chill looking spot and offer some cool views of neon signs at night. Makes it feel like a larger space than it is. Plus, weirdo people watching is a guilty pleasure.  Continue reading The Counter NYC – create your own burger feast!

The Supply House – craft beer and cozy in Yorkville!

o

There is nothing that satisfies my soul more than a delicious cold craft beer on a warm summer day in NYC. In all the years I have lived in my neighborhood we have been saddled by an overabundance of fratty bars and pubs that sling the all too familiar menu of bland flavorless mass-produced and over commercialized brew that we see in print and TV ads everywhere.

Alas, to my delight, and to many others who feel that yellow water called “light beer” is akin to heresy, over these past three years or so a beer bar resurgence arrived in the area to save our taste buds. With the 2nd Ave subway line almost finished many new businesses are coming. One of those bars that has taken up a home here is The Supply House. It’s another terrific craft beer purveyor that took a chance with Yorkville on the Upper East Side. This one in the spot at which the horrible frat boy and sorostitute haunt Tin Lizzy used to be. Not many in the hood liked that place, and it really had no reason to be in this part of town. Years ago it started out ok, but later developed into a bad scene. Good riddance as that bar was a cesspool and total vomitorium. It just attracted a less than stellar crowd. On the flip side, the new tenants in this spot are doing it right, and I wish them a lot of success. The diverse crowd I have seen here also seems to approve. The Burger Bistro – The Joy of Tots & Unicorn Farts in NYC.

Tater tots ease the pain of life’s follies and miseries. Tots make life happy and worth living. Biting into one makes me see unicorns and fart rainbows. Happy Happy! Joy Joy!

When I heard that a Burger Bistro was opening up shop here on the UES in Yorkville NYC I was ecstatic. I had been to their Brooklyn location and really enjoyed what they had to offer. This part of Manhattan is undergoing a tremendous change with terrific bars and eateries finding homes up here. More and more I really don’t see the need to schlep downtown, or to another borough to partake in good food and quality cocktails, especially now that I can get a craft beer and terrific burger a few blocks away from my apartment! 5 Guys Burgers & Fries – a hunk of NYC meat!

5 guys

Probably the most unhealthiest meal I have eaten in NYC recently, but after a week of being sick a few months back and hardly eating much I was finally in the mood for a gut busting greasy burger. Nothing cures an upset projectile vomiting stomach quite like a hunk o’ meat, right? It just so happened that I walked by 5 Guys Burgers & Fries and was lured in by the images of hunger pang defying burgers dancing through my brain.

It was my first excursion here. The place itself has that old fashioned soda shop feel with the red and white checkered decor, some tables and counter space to sit at, and a small no-nonsense burger and fry menu. Everything is cooked to order and is prepared fresh. There are even bags of potatoes piled on the floor that they use to make the fries with. Kind of fun looking. Clean dining area, and they have classic rock playing too which I can appreciate. Continue reading 5 Guys Burgers & Fries – a hunk of NYC meat!
