Eating grumpy! My NYC dining rants & ravings.

l

We who live here in New York love to go out to eat. It’s one of our pastimes that we all adhere to. Brunch has become a rite of passage. We mostly know that we can save a boat full of cash by cooking at home with more regularity, but then that means having to actually go out grocery shopping, preparing and cooking the actual meals, and then having to clean up the mess we make. It just seems easier to head out to one of the bazillion eateries and cafes that inhabit our fair city to enjoy a meal served to us. With the diverse amount of food stuffs offered here in our melting pot we have a cultural smorgasbord to choose from. No muss, no fuss.

Then again, along with the pleasantries of dining out there are the pitfalls that go along with it. Fellow obnoxious diners alongside you can easily ruin a nice meal. Restaurants can drive us batty with their rules and regulations. Clueless wait staff makes one want to scream. There are just so many to choose from! I give to you my fellow frustrated diners a list of rants & ravings based on my observations and experiences over my many years of dining out.

Holiday indulgence, the gym, and pancakes.

Here we go! I decided to not wait until after New Year’s to get back in the gym. After taking a much needed break these past few weeks to let my body recuperate a bit and heal up some nagging injuries I felt it was time to get back in gear. Hey, it’s holiday season and I am not one to deprive myself of all the good food and booze being put in front of me! Ho-Ho-Ho!

Engorging the Holidays!

Well, we seem to have made it through another Christmas. My body already feels as it has gone through an “extreme makeover” with all the stomach engorging food and hi-caloric drinking I have partaken in. Sure, I did it on my own accord with reckless abandon, and enjoyed every bite and gulp. Now, we have a week between major holidays, and New Years Eve will bring another evening of engorging. My pants are already getting tighter, and I dread what will happen after the holidays. I don’t make impossible to keep resolutions, but I am going to behave myself this week!

I ain’t no chef. Easy guy cooking.

I am kind of a lucky man. I am surrounded by terrific cooks and friends that can whip up delicious tasting meals and delicacies with a snap of their fingers. It’s both a blessing and a curse I tell you. On one hand, you just know to expect when we have a pot luck or get together somewhere. The food is amazing and quite tasty. Drool worthy at times. On the other hand, it makes me feel like the kind of person that can barely make a bowl of Cheerios. Monique is a ridiculous cook and can pretty much open up her own bistro if she wanted. Kristy is a pastry and dessert maven. Since she is diabetic she also bakes up some great low-sugar treats. Chef Ben is, well, he’s a trained chef and can make anything taste awesome. It’s a ridiculously talented group. We never have to worry about going hungry around these food magicians.
