After three days of devourment on the Upper West Side of NYC it might be time to get my butt back in the gym and run non-stop on the treadmill. I am even scared to think about how many calories I ingested, while also doing some serious damage to my liver in the process. Yet, am I really complaining? Quite the contrary! This was three days of delicious consumption of some of what the best UWS restauranteurs in NYC had to offer. Of course, it was like eating my way around the world. A smorgasboard of gastronomic delirium as presented over a three night event called New Taste of the Upper West Side!
I was honored and humbled that my blog was considered to help promote and cover this fine event May 27 – May 30. As I put on my media pass each night it unlocked a world of eats and drinks all under one tent, and in a fabulous park setting, that is a must for any NYC food aficionado to attend and be a part of. It’s not too often that I wave the white flag and cry out “no mas” but after three days of enjoying so much terrific food, wine, beer, desserts, and cocktails I think I need to dry out and detox a bit. It was certainly something I won’t soon forget and I’m actually looking forward to next year’s party! Better start my diet now! Continue reading New Taste of the UWS. One of the finest fried chicken dinners I have eaten here in the city!
Seems like many spots are opening up across NYC nowadays touting their famous fried chicken. I have tried many of them but still keep coming back to Bobwhite to get my fried chicken fix. Bobwhite Lunch & Supper Counter is the shady street corner pusher feeding my fried chicken addiction.
And why not? Their chicken kicks ass!
It’s a small spot so sometimes there is a wait. No biggie as it seems most will come here to chow down then leave and not linger. I really hate those people who will hang around and talk and talk after they are finished and just sip their drinks or ask for more water taking forever to give up the table. Get done and get the heck out! How dare you make us wait in starving drooling anticipation! Leave! Continue reading Get a Fried Chicken Baby Belly at Bobwhite NYC!→
Delicious gut busting Polish food at very affordable prices! Located in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, Krolewskie Jadlo offers a taste of European delight in this long surviving Polish enclave. It’s one of those cultural and ethnic communities that help make up the fabric of NYC’s diversity. Plus, if you’re the type that appreciates the heavier high caloric comfort food of which our ancestors enjoyed that warms the belly then a visit here is a must.
How can you not be lured into the royalty of Polish kings and queens while knights in shining armor are standing at watch outside while you feast? Walk on in and take a spot at a booth, and hope you have enough room to unbuckle your pants while your midsection expands with a food baby over the course of your meal. We had heard so many good things about this restaurant, and so many of our friends had raved about it, that we knew it would have to be on our list of must eats. We finally made a very worthwhile pilgrimage and were not let down. In fact, I am already looking forward to a return visit as long as I remember to wear some sort of maternity pants that can expand enough to hold me all in. Maybe I should borrow the pair Joey wore on Friends during the Thanksgiving episode?
Might be a good look on me too. At least I will be able to eat more!
Sometimes you just have to escape the comfortable surroundings of your regular haunts to discover new food sensations. It’s so easy to gravitate to the same spots over and over that are close to home, and become part of the normal routine for many of us here in NYC. Having friends who live in each suburb does offer the occasional opportunity to meander outside of the comfort zone and check out different food ethnicities to try out. We happen to love the foods of the Afgani and Pakistani peoples as there is just something so tasty and comforting about it. Intoxicating aromas. Plus, eating kababs are fun!
We were recently invited for a brunch at Bakhter Halal Kababs way out in Fresh Meadows, Queens. It was definitely a trek to get out there by subway and then a short car ride to the restaurant. Normally, we kind of avoid Queens as much of it is akin to the suburbs and you can’t get to many parts of the area by subway alone. Good thing for friends with cars. I have not owned a car since 1998 and don’t miss it at all! They picked us up and drove us there after arriving at the subway stop they told us to arrive at. When we walked up to this place along a main street strip mall I was wondering what we had gotten ourselves into here. Continue reading Trekking into Queens rewards with Kabab Nirvana!→
