noobWe have now entered the time of the year that can only be considered the dead zone between seasons of gloom and unabashed joy. Yes, that time of the year on the calendar that seems to drag on endlessly between New Year’s and Spring weather sometime in late April or May. The days start off dark heading to work, and end in the dark on the way home from work. The trees are bare of leaves. The air is cold. The weather unpredictable with days of dryness giving way to snow, sleet, and rain. Kind of dreary out. Very few holidays to break up the monotony save for President’s Day and Martin Luther King day if your company is nice enough to give them off. It’s a time when people desperately try to adhere to their resolutions to eat better, be a bit healthier, and stick to a fitness program.

Yes, we have now entered….The Noob Zone.

Holiday indulgence, the gym, and pancakes.

Here we go! I decided to not wait until after New Year’s to get back in the gym. After taking a much needed break these past few weeks to let my body recuperate a bit and heal up some nagging injuries I felt it was time to get back in gear. Oh yes, I also took off on my diet too and indulged in plenty of bad eating and drinking. Hey, it’s holiday season and I am not one to deprive myself of all the good food and booze being put in front of me! Ho-Ho-Ho!

I lift things up and put them down!

I have to admit to being a slug lately. With all that has been going on here in the city – hurricane, nor’easter, power outage, slight cold – my workouts suffered and I definitely dropped off my routine. I feel like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. I’m starting to resemble him. After looking in the mirror this morning I decided to drag my pudgy ass to the gym and get back to my workouts.

Persistence and fitness goals pay off! That, and being a bit crazy in the head!

Now, I must admit being at the age I am now with a little more mileage on my chassis things get a bit harder to maintain. A creak here, a tinge there, and a tuneup sometimes takes longer to perform. Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from being old and broken down at this point, and I can still stay up late and party with the best of them, even though the recovery time the next day takes a little longer! I just can’t help myself as I love to go out and have a good time. Work hard and play hard. Work to live – don’t live to work. Guess you could say I have a bit of the “Peter Pan” syndrome in me. Yeah, I’ll never truly grow up. It’s a blessing and a curse.
