Ray’s Candy Store – a NYC Old School Classic

The man himself – Ray. (photo credit – Ray’s Candy Store)

Gritty. Cheap. Cramped. A bit worn and grimy. Love.

Ray’s Candy Store is just perfect and a true representation of what old school NYC used to be. The kind of place that is a must to hit up when in a happy drunk vibe late at night, and need some sort of fatty, sweet, greasy, or messy snack to help soak up all the booze you consumed.

Ray’s has been open since 1974. Walking up from outside the facade is not the most appealing, and easy to miss. It’s a different world once you enter inside. The space itself is small, and the walls are plastered with newspaper clipping, photos, signs, pictures, and posters listing the hodge podge of foods they offer. Soft serve ice cream, Belgian fries, egg creams, chili dogs, cheese fries, shakes, fried Twinkies, sausages, and even beignets! There is so much here to make your inner fatty happy! Sitting outside with Frank’s handmade pasta in NYC!

Black Linguini w/ Frutti di Mare – Just Perfect!

Delicious handmade pasta in my belly!

Frank in NYC is a cozy and homey Italian kitschy looking place with some outside seating. Can be somewhat cramped as this is a popular spot, and on a nice weather night people want to eat at the sidewalk tables. Hey, we all know it’s a NYC thing that we all love. Just put your name on the list and do the hover like a senior citizen waiting to jump on that penny slot machine as soon as someone gets off. The Evil Eye is all too real!

Wandering the area recently it was a perfect night to finally sit outside and enjoy a meal as the swamp ass heat of summer actually disappeared for a bit in NYC. So glad we gave Frank a shot. He’s a fine gent indeed! Continue reading Sitting outside with Frank’s handmade pasta in NYC!

There’s nothing like a sexy Redhead in NYC!

Blondes, brunettes, and redheads. There can be found quite the variety here in NYC, but there is just something to be said when you bump into a sexy redhead.

After hanging with a bunch of friends for drinks in the East Village area we decided to grab a bite to eat. Using the Yelp ap on my phone we discovered The Redhead and called. They were able to hook us up with a table for six with only a minimal wait. As it’s not a large place it was pretty packed, but that was to be expected since this seems to be a popular joint in the hood. Especially on a weekend night. Can be a bit cramped for seating as we discovered but they made it work for us.

It was so dark in here I could hardly read the menu. Using the candlelight I almost set my menu on fire. Had to go with the Fried Chicken which was pretty decent compared to many I have had throughout the city, and the cocktails were strong but tasty. Always a plus in my book. Also, the Wedge Salad accompanying the meal was a nifty side that you don’t see too often in places like this.

Was underwhelmed with the Bacon Peanut Brittle. Not worth the price. I don’t get what everyone sees in this small bowl of peanuts that barely tasted like bacon. So disappointed. Continue reading There’s nothing like a sexy Redhead in NYC!

Tasty Korean Tacos and Tiger Balls at Korilla BBQ NYC!

Terrific Korean Tacos!

Delicious new Spring Menu! Tasty Korean Tacos and Tiger Balls!

The food temptations abound and lure us in with total disregard to any diet or attempt to stay fit in our clothes. Such is the life of a NYC blogger, and the amount of good eating just never ends in this town. There is always something new and revolutionary around each corner, or hidden away on some side street that you happen to stumble upon. One such spot is Korilla BBQ down in the East Village. It is one of those places that I had walked by a bunch of times, but had never stopped in to eat at.

We were invited here this past weekend as part of a media group special tasting of their new menu items. It was a small gathering of us that were here for this invite-only event which worked out well since the place is on the smaller side and seating is limited. We arrived around 4pm and took a seat in the small dining area in the back where we were joined by other bloggers and media people. Quite a friendly crowd, and all looking forward to checking out some great food.  Continue reading Tasty Korean Tacos and Tiger Balls at Korilla BBQ NYC!
