Gotta love a speakeasy happy hour 4-6 pm Mon-Fri! $10 cocktails, smooth music and some old school flapper era jazz to set the mood. Terrific atmosphere and dimly lit ambiance. Such was the wonderful tone set here at the Flatiron Lounge in NYC.
The Maple Leaf is a nice choice if in a rye whiskey mood, and it goes down nice and easy. I walked in around 5:30 and ordered my first. Didn’t take much to twist my arm and order up a second a minute before happy hour ended. Some libations are worth hanging around for.
Superior bartenders, quality cocktails, and a classy throwback decor make this a must visit if shopping in the area and need some liquid relaxation after dropping cash on some retail therapy. I so needed this in my life at that point, as I was a pressure cooker about to explode after dealing with way too many annoying tourists crowding the stores getting in my way, along with the locals dragging crying kids and baby carriages along the sidewalks. It sounds like an age-old cliché but time sure does go by fast when you’re having fun! Never did I think I would be sitting here at this point in my life reflecting back and yet still looking to the future. Age is a funny thing for sure. The young relish in their youth. The old wish they had more time. We look forward to celebrating the day of our birth, and yet many also dread that day when hitting a certain age plateau signifies what is perceived as past their prime. I never thought of age as something to fear or even be aware of. Seems like it’s more on the mind of those around me who keep bringing it up. Yes, it’s my birthday today, and as I prepare to party it up at the casino in Atlantic City I’m staying at with my loved ones all I want to do is gamble hard, eat with gluttonous abandon, booze it up, and enjoy life! Blackjack, craps, cocktails, high limit slots, cigars, a good whiskey, cold beer, and a tasty meal are all on the agenda. All. Week. Long. This Regular NYC Guy has come here to experience all the vices I can. Boom!
Can’t get any better than at the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Brooklyn, NYC. Shuffleboard, booze, DJ, cabanas, food truck, and pink flamingo wallpaper in the bathrooms. Drinks in mason jars. Pure brilliance! A unique concept totally out of the ordinary as I love the old school aspect of it blended in with a modern flair. Time to break out the Tommy Bahama shirt, cargo shorts, and sandals. Can’t forget the fruity drink with an umbrella in it.
Man, the last time I played shuffleboard was down in Florida with my long ago retired aunts and uncles. It was always considered an “old folks” game but Royal Palms has bumped it up a notch into the new millenium by making it hip and trendy for the younger generation now. The facility here rocks. Terrific bars on site serving up great cocktails and a good tap beer list. DJ and bands on hand rocking the house. Super airy large location with ten state of the art shiny shuffleboard courts. Cabana seating along the far wall overlooking the action. A built in garage and window for rotating food trucks to come in and serve guests. Shuffleboard leagues. Parties for groups. Bingo night. Live music. This place is just pure fun. Retro styling with a Miami flair. They have nailed it! This ain’t your grandpappy’s shuffleboard! It actually can be called cool to play shuffleboard now. I’m always up for a quality made libation! Very nice addition to the Murray Hill area close to where I work here in NYC. Middle Branch is the sister speakeasy cocktail joint to downtown Little Branch. Lacking the bro-fisting that is normally seen in bars around these parts it’s a classier choice to score a liquid refreshment. Heck, “Home On The Range” is a terrific cocktail, and at $12 a bit cheaper here than at most speakeasies in NYC!
Been here a few times now for an after work cocktail. As it’s kind of hidden in what looks to be just another residential brownstone you can easily walk by, but it’s not all that hard to find. There is a plaque on the face of the building with the letters MB along with a wrought iron fence that surrounds it. As it’s a two story place the open windows with patrons seen drinking during warmer weather kind of gives it away. Continue reading No Bro-Fisting. Just great cocktails at Middle Branch in NYC.→
