Well, Hola Everyone!

It’s been a while since I posted here as things have been in flux with my life. Job has been a bit stressful lately, but that seems to be the story with most of us toiling in the corporate world. Still waiting with bated breath for that big Powerball win. What’s up with that shizz anyway? Sparky wants to get paid, dammit!

Anyway, I decided to get back to writing here and offering up my chicken scratch for your consumption. Just about a month ago I ran in the Cupid’s Undie Run for charity. It was damn cold that Valentine’s Day weekend with frigid temps and wind gusts that would make even Santa Claus freeze his snowballs off. Even so, we persevered and ran along the West Side Highway on that cold but thankfully sunny day in our undies. Sure, I did sport my red heart decorated boxers, red Deadpool shirt (because it was a love story!) and red top hat, but I also cheated a bit and wore a terrifically warm fluffy red robe that I earned as an award for my fundraising. Heck, as long as I earned that thing I was going to wear it! No freezing my coconuts off for this kid! Needed any heat source possible on this day. Conquering Urban Mudder in NYC. The kid does it again!

UMM
This was much harder than it looks! Head Rush was one of the first obstacles. Time to get wet!

In the words of Rocky Balboa- “It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward.”

“That’s how winning is done!”

Each year now I put myself through one of these mud runs and obstacle course races. Whether it’s a Warrior Dash, Tough Mudder, Urban Mudder, etc. 3 miles, 12 miles, 5 miles. Each year I end up a bit bruised, battered, bloodied, and scraped up. I do it for a cause. To give something back. Anything.

They say it’s a young man’s game. I’m probably one of the older dudes out there on event day. I don’t let it defeat me. Maybe I’m crazy. Why do I put myself through this pain? Because I can. Because I won’t ever give up. Life is too much fun, and too short, to sit on a couch and watch it all go by. Even if what I do makes a tiny bit of difference in someone’s life it’s all worth it to me. It’s worth the aches and pains my body feels after these races. Plus, I will admit I do enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I cross that finish line.

I recruited my bud Francisco to get out there with me for his first OCR and we conquered the first ever Urban Mudder NYC in 2015! It was a terrific day and experience. Even with a sunny hot 88 degree day out we crushed it. Boom!

We want to thank all those who offered their support and donations. You rock! We were one of the top 5 fundraising teams for the Make A Wish charity with over $3400! The Make A Wish Foundation was very grateful for our efforts. In total they raised over $40,000 with Urban Mudder. Again, thank you all who helped support us with this cause. New Taste of the UWS. Three days of gastronomica in NYC!

new

After three days of devourment on the Upper West Side of NYC it might be time to get my butt back in the gym and run non-stop on the treadmill. I am even scared to think about how many calories I ingested, while also doing some serious damage to my liver in the process. Yet, am I really complaining? Quite the contrary! This was three days of delicious consumption of some of what the best UWS restauranteurs in NYC had to offer. Of course, it was like eating my way around the world. A smorgasboard of gastronomic delirium as presented over a three night event called New Taste of the Upper West Side!

I was honored and humbled that my blog was considered to help promote and cover this fine event May 27 – May 30. As I put on my media pass each night it unlocked a world of eats and drinks all under one tent, and in a fabulous park setting, that is a must for any NYC food aficionado to attend and be a part of. It’s not too often that I wave the white flag and cry out “no mas” but after three days of enjoying so much terrific food, wine, beer, desserts, and cocktails I think I need to dry out and detox a bit. It was certainly something I won’t soon forget and I’m actually looking forward to next year’s party! Better start my diet now! Continue reading New Taste of the UWS. Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Brooklyn NYC!

l (7)

You can shuffle my board anytime, baby!

Can’t get any better than at the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Brooklyn, NYC. Shuffleboard, booze, DJ, cabanas, food truck, and pink flamingo wallpaper in the bathrooms. Drinks in mason jars. Pure brilliance! A unique concept totally out of the ordinary as I love the old school aspect of it blended in with a modern flair. Time to break out the Tommy Bahama shirt, cargo shorts, and sandals. Can’t forget the fruity drink with an umbrella in it.

Man, the last time I played shuffleboard was down in Florida with my long ago retired aunts and uncles. It was always considered an “old folks” game but Royal Palms has bumped it up a notch into the new millenium by making it hip and trendy for the younger generation now. The facility here rocks. Terrific bars on site serving up great cocktails and a good tap beer list. DJ and bands on hand rocking the house. Super airy large location with ten state of the art shiny shuffleboard courts. Cabana seating along the far wall overlooking the action. A built in garage and window for rotating food trucks to come in and serve guests. Shuffleboard leagues. Parties for groups. Bingo night. Live music. This place is just pure fun. Retro styling with a Miami flair. They have nailed it! This ain’t your grandpappy’s shuffleboard! It actually can be called cool to play shuffleboard now.
