Head Westville Young Man for Healthy Eats in NYC!

o

I’m a busy man lately. Been running all around Manhattan performing errands, getting some dreaded Christmas shopping done, dropping off a few coats for charity, and also squeezing in some much-needed fun time with my friends. NYC is a magical place this time of year, and lends itself to a bit of overeating and overindulgence.

Yes, diets and waistlines take a beating during the holiday season.

That being said it’s always nice to have a spot like Westville to drop in for some clean and healthy eats to place your mind at ease, and make you feel a little better about yourself after the previous night’s egg nog consumption and over-eating at the company party. Boozy Gummy Bears and Comfort Food at Duke’s NYC!

o

There are those days when I just don’t feel like eating all healthy and nutritious. We have all had those days. When you just can’t eat another salad or baked fish plate. You’d almost rather eat a bowl of dirt with ice cream and chocolate syrup on it. I had one of those days recently where I threw the calorie counts out the window, and decided to go have a fun meal nearby at the newly opened Duke’s on the UES of NYC.

Walking in we were greeted by the friendly hostess and were offered any seat we wanted that were available. As it was early on a weekday the place was mostly empty. Took a seat at a booth and were quickly taken care of by a terrific waitress. She made some perfect recommendations for food and drinks and answered any question we had about the menu and specials.

My observations –

Cool 70’s/80’s pop and rock playing.

Fun roadhouse decor.

Flat screens everywhere. Must be a good football weekend spot.

Plenty of cocktail concoctions. Boozy Gummy Bears!

Happy hour half prices on select libations and appetizers.

Jello shots and syringes! Continue reading Boozy Gummy Bears and Comfort Food at Duke’s NYC!

Now, here in NYC we all love the cool events and happenings that are afforded to the fair citizens of this metropolis. We also love brunch. Especially if booze is involved. Oh, booze must be involved! There is no brunch like a boozy brunch. Heck, sometimes people like myself even enjoy breakfast foods for dinner. Combine eating breakfast for dinner while sipping cocktails on board the deck of an aircraft carrier with a view of the NYC skyline all lit up at night and that makes our heads explode!

The Village Voice’s inaugural Brunch Eats on Wednesday, May 11th, 2016 will be a Breakfast-for-Dinner event held from 8:00pm-11:00pm. The sister event to the annual SELL OUT event Choice Eats, Brunch Eats will feature 20+ of New York City’s top restaurants and bakeries lauded in the Village Voice who will present their best breakfast bites, mouth-watering brunch dishes plus themed cocktails including bloody marys, mimosas, bellinis, coffee, live music and more.

Guests will sample and sip from all attending participants for one ticket price aboard the Flight Deck on top of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum amongst propeller planes that were used during World War II. Guests can expect to rise and dine with breakfast and brunch favorites ranging from doughnuts to eggs and bacon to pastries. Oh My!!!

Check out the list of participants so far (drooling over here already) – Continue reading The Village Voice Brunch Eats in NYC on the Intrepid!

Playa Betty’s for California-style beach food in NYC

Dropped in this relatively new spot for some eats on the Upper West Side of NYC after seeing Deadpool again. Yes, I went and saw it again. I had an excuse this time as I took my gal who loved it. Bad thing is she now keeps talking about Ryan Reynolds’ body. I had better keep up with this new training and eating regimen! No chimichangas for this guy!

Man, as many have noticed the service here at Playa Betty’s is extremely slow and a bit confused. Our server, even though nice enough, seemed frazzled.

Our bill was screwed up and they asked me twice if we had ordered something put on the bill that we did not order. Um, you’re our server. You took our order. Did you not realize you didn’t give this phantom item to us?

Also, I’m not a fan of when the main courses arrive literally two minutes after the appetizer is placed on the table. No bueno. Spacing people, spacing! Continue reading Playa Betty’s for California-style beach food in NYC
