We who live here in New York love to go out to eat. It’s one of our pastimes that we all adhere to. Brunch has become a rite of passage. We mostly know that we can save a boat full of cash by cooking at home with more regularity, but then that means having to actually go out grocery shopping, preparing and cooking the actual meals, and then having to clean up the mess we make. It just seems easier to head out to one of the bazillion eateries and cafes that inhabit our fair city to enjoy a meal served to us. With the diverse amount of food stuffs offered here in our melting pot we have a cultural smorgasbord to choose from. No muss, no fuss.
Then again, along with the pleasantries of dining out there are the pitfalls that go along with it. Fellow obnoxious diners alongside you can easily ruin a nice meal. Restaurants can drive us batty with their rules and regulations. Clueless wait staff makes one want to scream. There are just so many to choose from! I give to you my fellow frustrated diners a list of rants & ravings based on my observations and experiences over my many years of dining out.

One of the great things about living in NYC are all the different neighborhoods one can explore. On any day all it takes is a quick subway ride to hit up any part of the city. Brooklyn (fuggetaboutit!), da Bronx, Queens, every part of Manhattan up down and all around, and even Jersey is easy to get to by the PATH train from NYC. I have explored many parts of the city area riding the rails. Today was no different as we headed up to one of my favorite hoods – Harlem USA – to hang out, shop, and grab a bite to eat. In the foodie world there are so many choices to dine at with multiple restaurants everywhere serving up all types of fare. With the devastation that Hurricane Sandy has caused in the New York area perhaps this is a good a time as any to dine out for a few days, but instead of hitting up the bigger joints why not try out some of the smaller mom and pop establishments and support local biz?

Sometimes I trek over to the outer boroughs for a Yelp event, meeting friends for drinks, or to try out a place to eat. William Hallet was such a terrific find that I had to share it here. My recent Yelp review –
Phenomenal! Just Phenomenal! I was so surprised to find such a terrific place in Astoria that makes such delicious comfort food with a fancy gastropub flair! Along with speakeasy type cocktails it was a perfect find! Even the prices were quite reasonable!
Some of the boys and I decided to grab a bite at William Hallet after the recent Yelp Queens event and happened upon this place because the other restaurant we wanted to hit up was closed already. Sucks for them and good for us as we dropped some coin on food and drinks here that rocked.
