Gotta love a speakeasy happy hour 4-6 pm Mon-Fri! $10 cocktails, smooth music and some old school flapper era jazz to set the mood. Terrific atmosphere and dimly lit ambiance. Such was the wonderful tone set here at the Flatiron Lounge in NYC.
The Maple Leaf is a nice choice if in a rye whiskey mood, and it goes down nice and easy. I walked in around 5:30 and ordered my first. Didn’t take much to twist my arm and order up a second a minute before happy hour ended. Some libations are worth hanging around for.
Superior bartenders, quality cocktails, and a classy throwback decor make this a must visit if shopping in the area and need some liquid relaxation after dropping cash on some retail therapy. I so needed this in my life at that point, as I was a pressure cooker about to explode after dealing with way too many annoying tourists crowding the stores getting in my way, along with the locals dragging crying kids and baby carriages along the sidewalks. Frank in NYC is a cozy and homey Italian kitschy looking place with some outside seating. Can be somewhat cramped as this is a popular spot, and on a nice weather night people want to eat at the sidewalk tables. Hey, we all know it’s a NYC thing that we all love. Just put your name on the list and do the hover like a senior citizen waiting to jump on that penny slot machine as soon as someone gets off. The Evil Eye is all too real!
Sitting outside and eating pizza on a beautiful Spring Day in NYC. One of the joys of life here in the big city.
We have all been there. You walk by a spot seemingly hundreds of times and never notice it. If you do, then you never bother to give it a try. One late afternoon the weather was too good to pass by again, and a table was beckoning to us to take a seat at Olio e Piu.
While wandering around the West Village we stopped by this resto for an early dinner. I can’t even count the amount of times I had walked by this place, but so glad the aroma of pizza and Italian food lured us in. As it was a perfectly sunny day out and not too hot we sat on the outside patio seating which is kind of picturesque with all the flowers and plants adorning the space. A friendly waiter handed us menus and told us about some specials. We were having none of that! Just hand over the pizza and back away slowly. Back away! Oh Bloody Hell! Now I discovered another spot for brunch on the Upper West Side with a resto called Machiavelli.
Hey, I must admit it was a solid choice for brunch after competing in a 5K race with a celebratory cocktail! Look, after a few months now of eating right, cutting calories, eliminating red meats and processed junk, hitting the gym more frequently, and running my ass off at three miles a clip multiple days a week I deserved a damn alcoholic drink!
On this Sunday morning I had just competed in another 5K race (and did quite well, thank you) over in Queens and decided to meet up with a friend for some brunch to celebrate another successful run. Why not? The NYC weather was cooperating with a beautiful sunny Spring day, and brunch is like a weekend sport here in this city when multitudes of people stand in long lines and jockey for position to score some prime outside sidewalk seating.
