A Bloody Hell of a brunch at Machiavelli NYC!

o

Oh Bloody Hell! Now I discovered another spot for brunch on the Upper West Side with a resto called Machiavelli.

Hey, I must admit it was a solid choice for brunch after competing in a 5K race with a celebratory cocktail! Look, after a few months now of eating right, cutting calories, eliminating red meats and processed junk, hitting the gym more frequently, and running my ass off at three miles a clip multiple days a week I deserved a damn alcoholic drink!

On this Sunday morning I had just competed in another 5K race (and did quite well, thank you) over in Queens and decided to meet up with a friend for some brunch to celebrate another successful run. Why not? The NYC weather was cooperating with a beautiful sunny Spring day, and brunch is like a weekend sport here in this city when multitudes of people stand in long lines and jockey for position to score some prime outside sidewalk seating. Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina – Carb Love in NYC!

Mmmmm…..fresh made pasta! Carbs Carbs Carbs! Wonderful Carbs! Joyous carbs!

Hey, even though we are eating healthy and employing a more nutrition based intake nowadays doesn’t mean giving up on eating out and indulging a bit. We just decided to do it on a once a week basis, and pick out a new joint that we haven’t chowed down at before. Even so, there are plenty of spots here in NYC that offers up some delicious grub with a healthier kick to it. You just have to show some restraint and not give into sinful desires!
We happened on a restaurant called Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina. Located in the Chelsea Market we decided to give it a try for dinner while sauntering around the area as I took the day off for my birthday a few weeks ago. After walking around the High Line elevated garden and park we had a hungering for something to nourish our souls. Turned out to be a solid choice.

The market has some really nifty places to shop and dine at. We were drawn into here by the terrific selection of multi-colored and multi-flavored freshly made pastas in the displays. To dine in, or take out and prepare at home. After a full afternoon of strolling around the Chelsea/Meatpacking District area some carbs seemed like perfect way to replenish our energy packs. Or just to fill our bellies! Continue reading Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina – Carb Love in NYC!

Craft beer, pinball, and ping pong at Treadwell Park NYC!

Pretzels as big as your head!

Great new bar where the mediocre Neely’s BBQ used to be. It’s always a joy when my beer swilling cohorts alert me to a new craft beer discovery right in my own hood on the Upper East Side of NYC. As they were already there and invited me to join them I was unaware that a new business had opened up in this space, and as I sauntered up the street after exiting the subway a few blocks away I saw the sign on the outside for Treadwell Park.

Whoa! Terrific beer list, cocktails, ambiance, food, ping pong tables, pinball machines, popcorn machine, and flat screens all around. Holy cow – a working fireplace too! I could not believe my eyes. Can I move in? I won’t take up much space. I’ll sleep on the floor under the ping pong table.

Very nice woodsy urban cabin decor. Plenty of seating along the bar, high tops with stools, and heavy picnic benches that seats couples or groups.

Varied menu with a little something on it for everyone. Brats, sandwiches, finger foods, salads, and some main course entrees. I found the prices fair for the area, and for the type of delish craft beers curated on their list, but may seem a bit pricey for some. Still, I’m happy to shell out a few more shekels to hang out in a chill place like this and enjoy my time here. Continue reading Craft beer, pinball, and ping pong at Treadwell Park NYC!

There’s nothing like a sexy Redhead in NYC!

Blondes, brunettes, and redheads. There can be found quite the variety here in NYC, but there is just something to be said when you bump into a sexy redhead.

After hanging with a bunch of friends for drinks in the East Village area we decided to grab a bite to eat. Using the Yelp ap on my phone we discovered The Redhead and called. They were able to hook us up with a table for six with only a minimal wait. As it’s not a large place it was pretty packed, but that was to be expected since this seems to be a popular joint in the hood. Especially on a weekend night. Can be a bit cramped for seating as we discovered but they made it work for us.

It was so dark in here I could hardly read the menu. Using the candlelight I almost set my menu on fire. Had to go with the Fried Chicken which was pretty decent compared to many I have had throughout the city, and the cocktails were strong but tasty. Always a plus in my book. Also, the Wedge Salad accompanying the meal was a nifty side that you don’t see too often in places like this.

Was underwhelmed with the Bacon Peanut Brittle. Not worth the price. I don’t get what everyone sees in this small bowl of peanuts that barely tasted like bacon. So disappointed. Continue reading There’s nothing like a sexy Redhead in NYC!
