Cupcakes and Wine at Sweet Revenge in NYC

Cupcakes and wine? Sure, deal me in! After all, living well is Sweet Revenge, and since this was the name of the place in NYC it’s kind of appropriate.

We were on a cheat day when it came to eating, and after dinner close by decided to check this place out as we were still in time for cupcake and wine happy hour. Yes, that really is a thing here. Oh boy!

It was absolutely empty when we arrived. Service was pleasant but not overly attentive. Just right as we wanted to relax and chat. Small location with some seating and a small bar area. Continue reading Cupcakes and Wine at Sweet Revenge in NYC

Butter Cookies Old School Style at La Delice in NYC

o

Butter cookies!!!

Not many of these old school family style bakeries are left in NYC so when I happened upon this one in the neighborhood that I work in I had to drop by for some cookies. Maybe it was the large bakery chef statue standing outside the entrance that drew me in. That, or all the delicious looking stuff in the windows. La Delice Pastry Shop has been doing it right since 1935 and is a long-time mainstay in this part of town, Kips Bay. In an era where it seems that the city is getting rid of and losing many of its old-school, iconic, and cultural mainstays it’s always reassuring to discover a few of these places still surviving. To me, there is nothing like real bakery style cookies made the old-fashioned way, and not just pumped out by a factory pre-packaged and mass-produced.

Why are we in such a rush to destroy our history? Continue reading Butter Cookies Old School Style at La Delice in NYC

Epic NYC snowstorm that was a blast from the past!

Some of you spoiled millennials whining and crying about the snow, the harsh winter, the sudden cold, and not being able to go out need to get a grip. Waaah – I can’t get to Starbucks! Waaah – I can’t go to brunch today!

This past decade has seen so many mild winters you have no clue. Crap, it was 70 on Christmas here. What more do you want? This winter has been like a flaccid penis until this fluffer of a storm dropped to its knees and went to work in front of Old Man Winter. Yeah, Jonas has no shame. He worked hard for every inch.

Back in my day we normally had winter snowstorms every week, for months, and walked miles to school, uphill, with bare feet, then walked ten miles into town and worked hard labor, and then walked back home in the middle of another blizzard! Hey you kids – off my lawn! Continue reading Snowstorm Jonas had one huge set of snowballs on him!

This was goddamn awesome!

That was the thought we all had in our drunken stupor as we downed our amazing cupcakes and Awesome Pudding. Yes, it really is called Awesome Pudding. For a good reason!

It was our first time ever visiting Sugar Sweet Sunshine Bakery here in NYC on the Lower East Side. It’s a tiny shop that makes some damn fine cupcakes. Only a few tables and chairs to sit at. Friendly counter service. Lots to choose from to satisfy that sweet tooth craving. I am kicking myself for not partaking in their glorious cupcakery sooner.  Continue reading Hey Cupcake!
