Dominique Ansel is my NYC pastry dominatrix!

Considering I just worked out at the gym a block away, and then walked into this place to buy some delicious pastries I can pretty much say that workout was a waste. But these treats were so damn good! Waistline be damned!

The pastry dominatrix had me in her clutches. The gluttonous Adonis in me approves!

Dominique Ansel Kitchen in NYC has become famous for its mouth watering pastries, and with worthy acclaim. As for the actual facility it’s kind of small, with one community table to sit at, and a funky stair case pyramid with stadium-like seating that rise to the ceiling. Kind of a cool spot to drop in on and enjoy a tasty pastry, cup of cappuccino, or some nice hot soup and a croissant on a cold wintry NYC day. Butter Cookies Old School Style at La Delice in NYC

o

Butter cookies!!!

Not many of these old school family style bakeries are left in NYC so when I happened upon this one in the neighborhood that I work in I had to drop by for some cookies. Maybe it was the large bakery chef statue standing outside the entrance that drew me in. That, or all the delicious looking stuff in the windows. La Delice Pastry Shop has been doing it right since 1935 and is a long-time mainstay in this part of town, Kips Bay. In an era where it seems that the city is getting rid of and losing many of its old-school, iconic, and cultural mainstays it’s always reassuring to discover a few of these places still surviving. To me, there is nothing like real bakery style cookies made the old-fashioned way, and not just pumped out by a factory pre-packaged and mass-produced.

Why are we in such a rush to destroy our history? Continue reading Butter Cookies Old School Style at La Delice in NYC

Hey NYC parents – your spawn are not my problem!

Just be warned in case you ask me to watch your kid......
Just be warned in case you ask me to watch your kid……

Did she just really ask me to watch her spawn from Hell? Now, I am a responsible kind of fellow, and maybe I have that composure of which people seem to trust me for some reason. Yet, here I am baffled as to why someone would entrust a complete stranger with their DNA which plopped out from between their legs in a moment of excruciating agony. Hey, that was your choice lady, not mine. I am childfree by choice, and live a totally fulfilling life, thank you very much. The last thing I want to do is watch your crying, screaming, annoying child while you head to the bathroom to take a dump. Now don’t get me wrong, as I don’t hate childen, no really, but I am just not parent material. People constantly tell me and my gal that I look like I’d make a great dad. Bwahahahahaha! Yeah, this guy who still likes to go out drinking too much, partying too hard, and lives life on a whim. Sorry, I just don’t want to be trapped and looking miserable as I see so many parents here in NYC are. You know the type. They are pushing an oversized baby carriage, or carrying around their kid in a sack on their chest like an albatross around their necks. That forlorn look of despair in their eyes with a silent cry for help as they desperately seek an escape from the eternal situation they got themselves into. As I view these people I can only wonder if they rue the day they discarded their freedom in a moment of breeding frenzy. All it takes is a minute of ejactulatory bliss in exchange for twenty years of a parental jail sentence. Awww heck no. Sorry, it’s just not for me. The Fat Man strikes again!

After dinner not too long ago on the LES we decided to take a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood. My girl’s family actually grew up in this hood so we like to wander around and check out their old haunts. All of a sudden The Fat Man taps on my shoulder and points me in the direction of Veniero’s. Yes, I can’t resist so we decide to head on in.

Just had to wait on line for a few minutes for a table. When is there never a line here? At least you get to view the gigantic pastry counter with all its wonderful sugary offerings. All types of pastries, cookies, and gelato flavors. We were seated pretty quickly and handed the menus. There is so much stuff packed onto it that the actual letter size is super small to fit it all on the pages! Went with a regular coffee and trio of miniature pastries each. Hey, I’m trying to watch my figure as summer is just around the corner! I’m not fat – I’m just a bit oversized! Continue reading The Fat Man strikes again at Veniero’s in NYC!
