Then as the skies opened, and the rain subsided, the Lord said “let there be light”!
Such was the weather recently when I was nearing the end of a rainy 5 mile run in Central Park. As I finished my run on the east side of the park and headed for cover I jogged over to Bluestone Lane, which is housed in a church off East 90th and Central Park on the Upper East Side of NYC.
That is a question I ask myself constantly while living in NYC. Well actually, just not here but it seems pretty much everywhere I travel. I just don’t get it. They come out of the woodwork, out of the shadows, out of the dark corners of my mind to confront me in the strangest of ways. Now, I know that living in NYC it’s pretty much weirdo central. From what I have been told only a few spots rival it. Maine for one?
Just the other night it happened to me again. I had nothing much planned so I took my computer downtown to a nice coffee-house that stays open until midnight and offers free WiFi, along with a really tasty iced café mocha I must say. I was minding my own business doing some work on my resume and job hunt. Earbuds in and listening to my tunes. Every once in a while, I looked up and noticed the place was busy but not totally packed. There was a jumble of empty seats spread throughout. They are basically round tables for two. Of course, as with any coffee joint the tables near outlets are at a premium. WiFi hogs such as myself covet these. I noticed this one dude sitting alone at a table along the windows by one of these. He was not drinking or eating anything. Just sitting there. For an hour. Staring ahead into space. Like one of those creepers you see in a club at the edge of the dance floor holding a beer and leering at the girls dancing. Yes, that guy.
I am still daydreaming about the Mek Muffin at Mekelburg’s……..
I’m all about a good egg sandwich and killer beer list. Especially when I am ultra-hangry after running my butt off at an early morning 5K. So many folks told me about this hidden gem of a place in Brooklyn NYC. A below ground specialty food market, deli, and cafe tucked away off a side street at the bottom of a nondescript apartment building. Normally, this part of town is a bit of a hike for me to get to, but as I happened to be fairly close by I decided to make the trek over and check it out. My stomach and taste buds were ecstatic that I did. Continue reading Where an egg Mek Muffin grows in Brooklyn→
What the heck is wrong with people in the world lately?
With so many things going on with violence, abuse, the economy, the political rantings of crazy hair Trump, and mostly trying to figure out if Glenn is alive or deceased on The Walking Dead people have gone apeshit over a cup. Yes, a meaningless stupid red coffee cup. Really people, there are so many other pressing matters in the world to be concerned about than this call to arms for those overly crazy Christian zealots screaming out about a “war on Christmas”. If you are judging your bearing on the religion you adhere to based on a Starbucks coffee cup then you really have to look deep inside your own soul. Or lack of a brain. You all sound like complete morons. Let it go people, and enjoy your Peppermint Mochas. No one is trying to destroy your Christmas spirit by not placing a few decorative pics on your cup. Oh, and yes, whipped cream please! Continue reading Did Satan design those Starbucks red cups this year?→
