This terrific NYC cocktail joint made me say – Attaboy!

Even this beer guzzler of a dude can enjoy a libation made from the finest ingredients now and then. The boozier the better I say. Living well is so choice.

Attaboy NYC! I could not believe that it had taken me this long to partake in the wonder of a liquid refreshment at this establishment. A good friend of mine asked me to accompany him on a bro-date and embellish in an evening of cocktails, conversation, carousing, and devious behavior. Who am I to decline an invite of such stupendous possibilities?

I have a soft spot for Speakeasies, as they take me back to a more civilized time of NYC history. When gentleman had manners, broke the law, and drank in secret during the idiotic Prohibition years, while keeping it all hush-hush. Honor among thieves for sure. The Milton NYC – a new classy locals joint in Yorkville.

Wonderful new bar in Yorkville NYC for a classy cocktail in a terrific setting. (yeah, it’s been a while since it opened but I have been lazy catching up on my reviews to write) I’m always looking for new spots to check out close to home and The Milton located around the corner from where I live is basically a stone’s throw away. Good thing it’s stumbling distance as they make a mean cocktail here!

Some quick observations –

Pleasant date spot. Good for brunch, light dinner, or after work drinks. Attentive service and friendly bartenders. The type of place to wind down with a libation after a long day at the bar area, or to take your special someone out for a tasty bite in the dining room or out front on the sidewalk seating when the weather cooperates.

A decent mix of craft type beers on tap, and a nifty cocktail list. They make a pretty decent spicy bloody mary here too. On our last visit our group of four had a few rounds of these. Many places make a mediocre bloody with the mix coming from a bottle pre-made and store bought. These we could tell were made from scratch, the correct way. Yum.

The menu consists of American, Irish and English influences. Weekend brunch served too. Quaint seating in the back dining area. Kind of a mix of Irish snug and British pub. Looks romantic too at night when the lights are dimmed, candles are lit all around, and flowers are on the table. Cozy, classy, but not stuffy at all.

Hey, clean bathrooms too! For the ladies, there are hooks under the bar top to hang bags and coats on. That is always something my gal appreciates. It’s the little details like this which raises my opinion of a place. Bonus! Continue reading The Milton NYC – a new classy locals joint in Yorkville.

Dress up a bit. Be a tad classy and leave the jeans, sneakers, sandals, and t-shirt for the local pub. Act like an adult and adhere to the dress code. It’s fun to play dress up once in a while. Especially when visiting a spot to partake in cocktails from another era.

Find the exit doors in Grand Central Station on the upper restaurant balcony area. It’s kind of hidden but really not that much of a secret. The Campbell Apartment is listed right above it. Make a left out of them and you’ll see the entrance right off the outside bar/patio area on the Vanderbilt Ave side.

Saunter up to the bar and order a Kentucky Ginger. Watch as the bartender mixes a perfect libation. While he is doing that look over the drink menu and marvel at the list of old-school cocktails that are offered here. Be aware that the room was originally from the 1920’s and has been restored to its former glory. It displays history.

Act all cool like James Bond and take it all in. Lean back against the bar and marvel at the amazing ceiling architecture. Look around at the well dressed crowd enjoying themselves while prohibition era classics and cool jazz play in the background. Limited seating and even on a late evening midweek the joint was jumping. Enjoy the view of those sitting on the balcony area engaging in a little voyeurism of their own. Old school ambiance oozes out of every pore here from the white-jacketed servers, to the black cocktail dressed hostesses adorned with pearl necklaces. Think marble, glass, couches, and refined ambiance. The kind of spot where the men are smartly dressed in suit and tie, and the ladies in designer dress wear.

We sat at the bar on this night and had a wonderful experience. The staff here is highly professional, and offers exemplary service. Great bartenders that will partake in polite conversation and attend to your needs. If you chat them up and get to know them a bit they are actually friendly guys. Plus, they make a mean cocktail.
