Making My Taste Buds Sing at Saigon Market NYC

Wow, this place brought back amazing food memories of their old sister location that used to be up by me on 88th and 2nd ave in NYC. We were craving some of their wonderfully tasty plates after discussing some of the good eats we had there before the spot by us closed. Well, sometimes wishes do come through when gluttony is involved!

We were recently down by the Union Square area and my girl remembered that Saigon Market was close by, and being that it was dinner time we decided to forgo the normal Seamless route or cooking at home to head over here and feast! Continue reading Making My Taste Buds Sing at Saigon Market NYC

Le Viet Cafe – a tiny NYC spot for tasty Viet/Thai street eats.

Kimchi Fries. Do I need to say more? Look at that!

NYC seems to have an endless array of eateries of all styles and origins that take up residence here year in and year out. You can literally eat all around the world here in the five boroughs. Here is another new spot for good grub that has popped up within walking distance from my crib on the UES/Yorkville part of town. Hot damn! This makes my mouth and belly very happy!

Le Viet Cafe is a tiny resto that serves up some cheap and tasty Viet and Thai style street food. Even though it’s been open for a few months now where the old Buddha BBeeQ used to be we had not checked them out until a few weekends ago. Narrow and efficient looking the space can hold 12-15 people at most with a few tables along the one wall. Decor is minimalist but the service is very friendly. Menu is so very affordable and the portions are just about right for the price. Lunch specials during the week are also offered. I definitely need to go back now and try out some of the soups, sandwiches, fried rice dishes, and assorted appetizers. Yeah, you can say I enjoyed my first meal at Le Viet. Take a break from gambling at Dan Rooney’s Cafe & Bar

345Every once in a while we like to do a little gambling, but don’t want to schlep down three hours to Atlantic City. Closer to NYC is Empire City casino, which is really a racino, and while nowhere near as good as AC as the slots are tight it does offer a quick alternative to satiate a gambling crave.

They have done some renovations to the joint, and added in a few new spots to feast at after making a deposit into the one-armed video machine bandits. One such place to have a meal and brew at is Dan Rooney’s Cafe & Bar. During our last trip to the casino we decided to drown our losing sorrows in a pint of beer and a hot meal at this Irish sports pub.

Our verdict? Decent food, beer, and sports bar but overall service is slow and inattentive.

Rotisserie chicken entrée was a solid choice. Sides are extra but the carrots were a good option as they are seasoned great, and onion rings were large and battered well but not greasy at all. Also, we ordered a whole chicken which was more than enough for two people. I felt the prices were fair and the food was actually pretty decent, and a little better than I expected for a sports bar in a casino. Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar – shove a wiener in yo’ mouth!

brat
So many delicious weiners to choose from!

Dude! Now I know were to bite into a tasty wiener in Yorkville!

Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar is a terrific new little brat and sausage bar opened by Schaller & Weber – old school purveyors of scrumptious German deli meats and charcuterie! It’s their version of German street food with a NYC cool twist.

There is nothing else like this tiny spot on the Upper East Side of NYC. Open until 11pm on most nights. Grab and go, or chow down on your wiener in the small dining room area that is set up with a modern beer hall feel to it. Walk up to the sidewalk storefront window and gaze upon the selection of amazing meats to choose from. Bratwurst, Knackwurst, Weisswurst, Bacon Cheddar Brat, Kielbasa, Beef Wieners  – OH MY!!!!

So much meat to shove in my face! It’s like a gangbang party in my mouth and I want them all in me!

( Wait – did I just say that out loud? ) Continue reading Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar – shove a wiener in yo’ mouth!
