Sitting outside with Frank’s handmade pasta in NYC!

Black Linguini w/ Frutti di Mare – Just Perfect!

Delicious handmade pasta in my belly!

Frank in NYC is a cozy and homey Italian kitschy looking place with some outside seating. Can be somewhat cramped as this is a popular spot, and on a nice weather night people want to eat at the sidewalk tables. Hey, we all know it’s a NYC thing that we all love. Just put your name on the list and do the hover like a senior citizen waiting to jump on that penny slot machine as soon as someone gets off. The Evil Eye is all too real!

Wandering the area recently it was a perfect night to finally sit outside and enjoy a meal as the swamp ass heat of summer actually disappeared for a bit in NYC. So glad we gave Frank a shot. He’s a fine gent indeed! Continue reading Sitting outside with Frank’s handmade pasta in NYC!

A Bloody Hell of a brunch at Machiavelli NYC!

o

Oh Bloody Hell! Now I discovered another spot for brunch on the Upper West Side with a resto called Machiavelli.

Hey, I must admit it was a solid choice for brunch after competing in a 5K race with a celebratory cocktail! Look, after a few months now of eating right, cutting calories, eliminating red meats and processed junk, hitting the gym more frequently, and running my ass off at three miles a clip multiple days a week I deserved a damn alcoholic drink!

On this Sunday morning I had just competed in another 5K race (and did quite well, thank you) over in Queens and decided to meet up with a friend for some brunch to celebrate another successful run. Why not? The NYC weather was cooperating with a beautiful sunny Spring day, and brunch is like a weekend sport here in this city when multitudes of people stand in long lines and jockey for position to score some prime outside sidewalk seating. This NYC wino enjoys his vino tastings out on Long Island!

o
Award winning sparkling wines at Sparkling Pointe Vineyards. Can I try them all?

One great advantage of having family out east on Long Island is the chance to escape the concrete jungle of NYC for a while and spend a few days out there. This past Christmas week I had off from work so we crashed at their place for a few days to enjoy the holiday together. Where they live also offers a quick drive over to the North Fork of the island to hit the wine trail. What better way to spend an off day from work than partaking in numerous tastings of delicious vino! I love craft beer but also enjoy a taste of the grape too. I’m not a discriminating booze hound. If it offers a nice buzz, and tastes good, I’m all for it! Paired with some cheese, crackers, grapes, and assorted charcuterie it makes for a groovy afternoon of imbibing. This wino loves his vino! Check out the vineyards we happened upon during our afternoon wine tasting excursion the day after Christmas –

One Woman Wines & Vineyard

Wine tasting in a little shed! No, really, it is a little shed. Look at the pic I put up. Inside the decor is nicely done in a country farm kind of way. There were already about eight people in it when we got there so we had to squeeze in and wait our turn. Only room for one person serving the wine tasting behind a small bar area and he was very friendly, while also offering suggestions on other wineries to check out along the way. S’MAC – delish mac and cheese cheeriness in NYC!

l (2)

Can someone really overdose from eating too much cheese and carbohydrates in one sitting? Holy lactose intolerance Batman! This place was one crazy experience to have after a long day of drinking and partying after a pub crawl. Thank God it is not anywhere near where I live or I would need my arteries cleaned on a weekly basis. S’MAC does not play around when it comes to mac and cheese!

There is actually a small dine-in restaurant and a take out shop next door. It was packed, but all we had to do was hover like a senior at a casino looking to play their favorite penny slot machine and we snagged a bunch of tables within a few minutes. In my booze fueled ravenous state I looked over the menu of cheese-tactic choices and had to order the cheeseburger mac and cheese. Since there were two of us eating this we went with the mongo size. Boy was that a mistake! A giant portion served in a frying pan was put in front of us that struck fear into my stomach. Yes, it tasted terrific, but was so filling. Creamy cheddar and American cheese, seasoned ground beef, and a nice crispy top. Yummmmmy! We could not finish it all and had the rest bagged to go. Of course, I ate it while on the couch watching TV that night. All of it. By myself. Don’t judge!
