After three days of devourment on the Upper West Side of NYC it might be time to get my butt back in the gym and run non-stop on the treadmill. I am even scared to think about how many calories I ingested, while also doing some serious damage to my liver in the process. Yet, am I really complaining? Quite the contrary! This was three days of delicious consumption of some of what the best UWS restauranteurs in NYC had to offer. Of course, it was like eating my way around the world. A smorgasboard of gastronomic delirium as presented over a three night event called New Taste of the Upper West Side!
I was honored and humbled that my blog was considered to help promote and cover this fine event May 27 – May 30. As I put on my media pass each night it unlocked a world of eats and drinks all under one tent, and in a fabulous park setting, that is a must for any NYC food aficionado to attend and be a part of. It’s not too often that I wave the white flag and cry out “no mas” but after three days of enjoying so much terrific food, wine, beer, desserts, and cocktails I think I need to dry out and detox a bit. It was certainly something I won’t soon forget and I’m actually looking forward to next year’s party! Better start my diet now! Continue reading New Taste of the UWS. One great advantage of having family out east on Long Island is the chance to escape the concrete jungle of NYC for a while and spend a few days out there. This past Christmas week I had off from work so we crashed at their place for a few days to enjoy the holiday together. Where they live also offers a quick drive over to the North Fork of the island to hit the wine trail. What better way to spend an off day from work than partaking in numerous tastings of delicious vino! I love craft beer but also enjoy a taste of the grape too. I’m not a discriminating booze hound. If it offers a nice buzz, and tastes good, I’m all for it! Paired with some cheese, crackers, grapes, and assorted charcuterie it makes for a groovy afternoon of imbibing. This wino loves his vino! Check out the vineyards we happened upon during our afternoon wine tasting excursion the day after Christmas –

Wine tasting in a little shed! No, really, it is a little shed. Look at the pic I put up. Inside the decor is nicely done in a country farm kind of way. There were already about eight people in it when we got there so we had to squeeze in and wait our turn. Only room for one person serving the wine tasting behind a small bar area and he was very friendly, while also offering suggestions on other wineries to check out along the way. Both my gal and I have seen many Cirque Du Soleil shows over the years and I can undeniably say that I am a big fan. So when we were offered the chance to attend the premier night event and afterparty of course we jumped at the opportunity as we had not seen Amaluna before. We knew we were in for a special evening for as soon as we stepped inside the big top tent were were greeted by servers in costume handing us glasses of champagne. Yes, please! Sure, I’ll have three or four of those. There was a terrific mix of people in attendence to see the show and everyone mingled among the exhibits, performers, and interactive showcases for the hour before showtime. There was a feeling of excitement in the air, and as we were led into the main seating area surrounding the stage everyone was taken in by the colors and sounds our senses were treated to.
