Sweet Grass Grill in Tarrytown NY – a tasty train ride away!

l (2)

Sweet Grass Grill is a terrific choice for dining along Main Street in Tarrytown with the look and feel of being fancy, but it’s rather quite casual with a down home vibe. It’s a quick train ride north of Manhattan and makes for a wonderful day trip on a weekend. The town itself is quaint and historic as it’s also the home of Sleepy Hollow where Washington Irving lived and wrote the famous story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” which has been made into movies and a popular TV show which I really enjoy. Even though it is a small town there is a lot to see and do here. Mansion tours, street fairs, quality dining, and some nightlife along main street.

When we were here for a recent weekend jaunt we dropped in for dinner before heading home and grabbed a table outside since it was so nice out. The menu is not too expansive but offers a diverse selection of plates to choose from. I like that they go local and seek out farm fresh ingredients from the nearby area. Also, there are seasonal soups, salads, and a changing roster of entrees. Vegetarian options too for those non-meat eaters. In fact, they have Meatless Mondays with a special vegan tasting menu on hand. Brunch is also served, and they have a decent wine list and micro brewed beers too! Happy Thanksgiving from your celebrity chefs!

Well, here we are today on one of the biggest gluttony days of the year – Thanksgiving! It’s a day meant for family and friends to gather around the table and stuff ourselves silly feasting on ridiculous amounts of turkey, stuffing, yams, and pie. Lots of pie. Oh, glorious, pumpkin pie. Not to mention those annoying green things called vegetables for those of you who prefer a bit of healthiness mixed in with your engorgement. Along with those annoying family members, arguments, loud talking, drunken uncles, and the occassional fisticuffs that occur on this day of thanks dysfunction normally rules. Yet, we all put up with it and look forward to this day each year as not only does it bring a reason to pig out on tasty food, but for many it is a four day weekend!

I was watching the Food Network recently and just wondered what Thanksgiving holiday wishes would be like from a few of the celebrity chefs out there…… Continue reading Happy Thanksgiving from your celebrity chefs!

Butter Lane NYC – cupcakes & frosting & icing shots! Oh My!

Peanut Butter and Banana cupcake, Cream Cheese and Chocolate cupcake, Cinnamon Honey and Banana cupcake, and a French Chocolate and Vanilla cupcake.

OMG! Peanut butter frosting with mini marshmallows on banana cake cupcake for the win!

Yeah, this was another of my many drunken excursions while stumbling around the East Village. I figured if I brought some home I would not get into too much trouble. Thank goodness these Butter Lane cupcakes rocked, as my plan worked perfectly. Heh-heh-heh!

As I walked past this small little shop of sugary goodness I was drawn in by the aroma of baked glorious-ness! The concept is pretty simple when ordering up your treats – you choose a cupcake base and then choose a frosting. Cake bases are vanilla, chocolate, or banana. Frostings are a pretty wide range from vanilla, blueberry, raspberry to cream cheese, peanut butter, cinnamon honey, etc. So many choices to mix and match that I needed a little help putting my cupcakes together in the buzzed state I was in by the friendly counter lady.
