Now, here in NYC we all love the cool events and happenings that are afforded to the fair citizens of this metropolis. We also love brunch. Especially if booze is involved. Oh, booze must be involved! There is no brunch like a boozy brunch. Heck, sometimes people like myself even enjoy breakfast foods for dinner. Combine eating breakfast for dinner while sipping cocktails on board the deck of an aircraft carrier with a view of the NYC skyline all lit up at night and that makes our heads explode!

The Village Voice’s inaugural Brunch Eats on Wednesday, May 11th, 2016 will be a Breakfast-for-Dinner event held from 8:00pm-11:00pm. The sister event to the annual SELL OUT event Choice Eats, Brunch Eats will feature 20+ of New York City’s top restaurants and bakeries lauded in the Village Voice who will present their best breakfast bites, mouth-watering brunch dishes plus themed cocktails including bloody marys, mimosas, bellinis, coffee, live music and more.

Guests will sample and sip from all attending participants for one ticket price aboard the Flight Deck on top of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum amongst propeller planes that were used during World War II. Guests can expect to rise and dine with breakfast and brunch favorites ranging from doughnuts to eggs and bacon to pastries. Oh My!!!

Check out the list of participants so far (drooling over here already) – Continue reading The Village Voice Brunch Eats in NYC on the Intrepid!

Cobblescote on the Lake – pure Americana in Upstate NY.

l

Sometimes you just stumble upon a gem of a place. Absolutely one of the most enjoyable vacation spots we have stayed at. Back in July when I took a week off to run a Tough Mudder in upstate NY we swung by Cooperstown for a few days as we were looking for a nice place to stay. Searching the internet I found Cobblescote on the Lake. It was just what I was looking for. An old school kind of place with character that represented the lakeside outdoors area. During our week’s vacation we had stayed in a few modern chain hotels and were super pleased to find a place such as this that was the total opposite. Right on Otsego Lake in a picturesque setting among the woods. As we drove up both of us were blown away. This place was something out of a Norman Rockwell painting he did for the Saturday Evening Post back in the day. We immediately wished we were staying there longer than a three day weekend. Cooperstown Diner – where you get a meatloaf as a burger!

I’m a diner kind of guy and to me there is nothing wrong with an occasional trek into one to have some filling sloppy comfort food. The Cooperstown Diner was a recent find that totally satiated my lunch cravings for something big to chow down on.

Of course, when we were in Cooperstown recently and walked by this tiny looking brick faced diner I was enticed to venture in by the chalkboard proclaiming their famous burgers. I love old school joints like this that seem to be disappearing across the land. It’s a shame as these places scream “Americana” and deserve to be preserved for all to enjoy.

OK, I will admit the place is a bit grimy looking and could use a coat of paint but it’s also charming in it’s own way. A bit narrow and tight with some tables and counter seating so it can be a bit of a wait when crowded as it was when we walked in. Literally, it seats about 20 people tops. Seemed like a bunch of regulars were there, the townies, mixed in with a few of us tourist folk. Signage on the walls listing the daily dinner specials and breakfast is served all day which is a win in my book.

We both ordered the burger with curly fries and tater tots. Good God Man! What the heck is that thing? It looked like a meatloaf between two buns! This beast was a massive hunk of meat that actually scared me a bit. With nervous laughter we dug in and were surprised at how juicy and tasty the burger was. Curly fries were decent but I wish I had ordered the tater tots. Always order the tots. We rolled out of there and had to take a walk to digest a bit after that meat attack. Plus, I had to drive back to Manhattan and needed to wake myself from the coma before I passed out and swerved off the road.  Continue reading Cooperstown Diner – where you get a meatloaf as a burger!
