Mmmmm…..fresh made pasta! Carbs Carbs Carbs! Wonderful Carbs! Joyous carbs!
Hey, even though we are eating healthy and employing a more nutrition based intake nowadays doesn’t mean giving up on eating out and indulging a bit. We just decided to do it on a once a week basis, and pick out a new joint that we haven’t chowed down at before. Even so, there are plenty of spots here in NYC that offers up some delicious grub with a healthier kick to it. You just have to show some restraint and not give into sinful desires!
We happened on a restaurant called Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina. Located in the Chelsea Market we decided to give it a try for dinner while sauntering around the area as I took the day off for my birthday a few weeks ago. After walking around the High Line elevated garden and park we had a hungering for something to nourish our souls. Turned out to be a solid choice.
The market has some really nifty places to shop and dine at. We were drawn into here by the terrific selection of multi-colored and multi-flavored freshly made pastas in the displays. To dine in, or take out and prepare at home. After a full afternoon of strolling around the Chelsea/Meatpacking District area some carbs seemed like perfect way to replenish our energy packs. Or just to fill our bellies! Continue reading Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina – Carb Love in NYC!→
Wow – the reviews of this place vary wildly from what I have read on different sites. From satisfied patrons to outright hatred. All I can say is that when my merry group of diners and myself ate here recently we had a terrific time with good service and decent food. That’s all you can ask for when eating at a chain resto like Buca di Beppo in Bally’s casino.
Don’t go in thinking it will be a Michelin star rated joint, and just know that it is what it is – a chain Italian spot. Lower expectations a bit and enjoy a meal in a lighthearted amusing atmosphere. Sucks for those that can’t deal with that and had a bad experience at this location. All I can say is that we all had a great time and walked out stuffed and mainly satisfied on our last jaunt to Atlantic City, NJ.
As a bunch of us were here recently during the Yelp AC Winter Getaway weekend event I decided to reserve a table for twelve since it would also be my BDay weekend, and a good time to relax with a group of friends over a fun dinner and wine. It was during the AC restaurant week promotion, so we ate at RW prices which were a nifty deal at $33.15 a person. More than enough on the menu to choose from, and the portions were actually quite large and filling. Decent enough wine list with different price points too. It sounds like an age-old cliché but time sure does go by fast when you’re having fun! Never did I think I would be sitting here at this point in my life reflecting back and yet still looking to the future. Age is a funny thing for sure. The young relish in their youth. The old wish they had more time. We look forward to celebrating the day of our birth, and yet many also dread that day when hitting a certain age plateau signifies what is perceived as past their prime. I never thought of age as something to fear or even be aware of. Seems like it’s more on the mind of those around me who keep bringing it up. Yes, it’s my birthday today, and as I prepare to party it up at the casino in Atlantic City I’m staying at with my loved ones all I want to do is gamble hard, eat with gluttonous abandon, booze it up, and enjoy life! Blackjack, craps, cocktails, high limit slots, cigars, a good whiskey, cold beer, and a tasty meal are all on the agenda. All. Week. Long. This Regular NYC Guy has come here to experience all the vices I can. Boom!
I ABSOLUTELY fell in love with this place when celebrating a birthday dinner the first time we were here!
Sure, it’s not for everyone as it’s loud, crazy packed, the music is pumpin’, and the regulars up here look like a stereotype of every 1970’s Huggy Bear pimp caricature or modern day rap video guy and gal. The men are crowding the bar up front sporting their best fur coats while checking out the fine ladies dressed to the nines in their best leopard wear and incredibly high heels and hair extensions. The music is loud with jammin’ tunes that went everywhere from 80’s freestyle, to smooth r&b, to Biggie and Tupac, then to current rap hits, and back to old school Sugar Hill Gang and KRS-One. You can’t help but move to the great music and want to dance when eating dinner here. Ricardo’s is an epic scene that you get sucked into, and happy to go along for the delicious ride!
