I love a good dive bar with all kinds of kitschy stuff on the walls!
This is one of those spots that you find now and then in the NYC area which makes you wish was closer to your apartment, but also glad that it’s far enough away from you. The temptation to lure me into here on a daily basis would be tough to resist. My liver would hate me, but man, would I be a happy camper here.
Red Hook Bait & Tackle is one of those places. It’s one of those bars that every New Yorker who appreciates a good dive should trek out to at least once. Plus, this bar was devastated by Hurricane Sandy along with many other businesses in the Red Hook area, so that makes it even more of a terrific pilgrimage to visit and support them. It’s a testament to the owners resolve, and the community who helped them get back on their feet. Continue reading Red Hook Bait & Tackle – a Hurricane Sandy Survivor→
I’m always up for a quality made libation! Very nice addition to the Murray Hill area close to where I work here in NYC. Middle Branch is the sister speakeasy cocktail joint to downtown Little Branch. Lacking the bro-fisting that is normally seen in bars around these parts it’s a classier choice to score a liquid refreshment. Heck, “Home On The Range” is a terrific cocktail, and at $12 a bit cheaper here than at most speakeasies in NYC!
Been here a few times now for an after work cocktail. As it’s kind of hidden in what looks to be just another residential brownstone you can easily walk by, but it’s not all that hard to find. There is a plaque on the face of the building with the letters MB along with a wrought iron fence that surrounds it. As it’s a two story place the open windows with patrons seen drinking during warmer weather kind of gives it away. Continue reading No Bro-Fisting. Just great cocktails at Middle Branch in NYC.→
Holiday music non-stop, super boozy drinks, and it looks like Christmas threw up in here! Pure love! Miracle on 9th Street in NYC is so much win!
This pop up bar concept that is all things Christmas, and Hanukkah too, is just all kinds of awesome! I’m all about the cheesy and kitschy bars and this theme here is so over the top that it wins on so many levels. It’s only open for a short time and actually closing today so be sure to get there early and partake in many awesome libations that will warm the cockles of your heart and send you home with a buzz. After this they are transforming into a full time bar based on spiced cocktails. Not too sure how that will go but I’m all for keeping the holiday theme all year round! How wonderful would it be in the hot humid summer to drop into an AC cooled Christmas environment for a cold cocktail listening to Bruce Springsteen sing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town? I get Bitter just knowing that such an eloquent cocktail emporium is but just a short trek from wherever I am in the city, yet I must be discreet and not let my one true love discover my Amor y Amargo on the side. I meet up with her in the cozy and intimate confines of her abode down in the East Village of NYC.
She will be truly hurt if she finds out about the Sharpie Mustache that my Bitter mistress has drawn on my lips many times. If she knows what we have done in our stolen private moments she will not try to Dismember The Pain that will be inflicted on my body. Our love will be a Casualty that is gone but not Forgotten.
Alas, I am just a Smut Peddler that can’t forgive who I really am. It is a Bitter pill to swallow as can be expected with a Burning Bush.
