Gotta love a speakeasy happy hour 4-6 pm Mon-Fri! $10 cocktails, smooth music and some old school flapper era jazz to set the mood. Terrific atmosphere and dimly lit ambiance. Such was the wonderful tone set here at the Flatiron Lounge in NYC.
The Maple Leaf is a nice choice if in a rye whiskey mood, and it goes down nice and easy. I walked in around 5:30 and ordered my first. Didn’t take much to twist my arm and order up a second a minute before happy hour ended. Some libations are worth hanging around for.
Superior bartenders, quality cocktails, and a classy throwback decor make this a must visit if shopping in the area and need some liquid relaxation after dropping cash on some retail therapy. I so needed this in my life at that point, as I was a pressure cooker about to explode after dealing with way too many annoying tourists crowding the stores getting in my way, along with the locals dragging crying kids and baby carriages along the sidewalks. Drinking in the park with a riverside view is just the best way to have a beer!
In my never-ending quest to brutalize my body with ongoing 5K races this year my most recent endeavor led me to Riverside Park on the UWS of NYC. Check-in for the race was at 6pm at Ellington in The Park. It was one of those last-minute decisions on a hot, humid, and rainy day that I am glad I went forward with. Even if at one point I questioned my sanity. How did I not even know this place was here after living so long in the city?
How can you not love this kind of spot? It’s kind of a hidden gem way uptown on the west side and buried in Riverside Park off the 103rd street entrance. Walk down the stairs and over to the right and you will see it overlooking the Hudson River.
There is a small bar up top with outside seating offering great views. Walk the stairs down and there is another larger bar below level with both outdoor and some covered seating. Also offers great views of the river, athletic areas, and the normal backed up traffic on the Riverside Drive – LOL! You can also find the bathrooms down here too. Enjoying my Funemployment with a beer sitting outside on a beautiful warm Summer NYC day at the Bryant Park Cafe patio bar!
Yupper, I have had some major life changing developments over these past few weeks, and I now have some free time on my hands to fill my days, but that is a blog post for another time. As for now let’s just say that I’m taking some much-needed “me time” and exploring my options. Why not do it while enjoying what the city has to offer during the terrific weather we have been blessed with lately? Beer me baby! Continue reading Bryant Park Cafe & Bar – an outside oasis in NYC.→
Avenida Cantina? Why does this place seem so familiar?
Cheap, filling, and tasty Tex Mex in the space Idle Hands bar used to be. In these days NYC is constantly changing and evolving, yet it still took me by surprise when we wandered in here for some post happy hours eats and realized it was an old haunt of ours.
Upstairs dining area is totally repainted and redecorated in a bright cheerful decor but we still recognized the layout of a bar we had some good times at. Oh, the drunken memories! Idle Hands had a solid beer and whiskey list, rock and metal bar in a hovel of a basement lair downstairs, burger joint and tater tots to chow down on upstairs, along with a bunch of Yelp events we attended here.
