Ready to bang my head and rock out with my c**k out!!!
Rock of Ages is a blast from the past. This show absolutely rocks! Man, it brings back memories of long hair, great music, spandex, concerts, great rock clubs, hooking up with girls, lots of drinking, and fun times. I lived this life as did many of us back in the era when the bars were hot, the music scene was hotter, and the babes were scorching! It was just a non-stop optimistic party scene and if you missed out on the 80’s you truly missed the most fun decade of outrageous music and clubbing.
The Helen Hayes Theater itself is decorated with classic rock posters and concert announcements from the era. Classic pictures of bands and rock stars adorn the walls in the lobby. As soon as you enter you are treated to great music while hitting the bars to get your drink on. Plus, they encourage drinking throughout the show while at your seat. Now that is a party! In fact, the whole time we were here it felt like one big party! The crowd was into it, people were on their feet, and singing along too. Yesssss!
The actors and actresses during the performance were terrific. Some really wonderful singing and acting along with very funny bits throughout. Many sexual innuendos had the crowd laughing it up too. The band on the stage was pretty awesome and very talented. They ripped into songs from Whitesnake, Twisted Sister, Journey, Styx, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, Quarterflash, Bon Jovi, Quiet Riot, and many more recognizable tunes that we all know. Power pop, hair metal, and ballads to uplift your soul and melt your heart.
Be prepared to party with a mixed crowd of locals, tourists, older, and younger that still love and appreciate this music. Go to the evening show for a more energetic crowd. If you are looking for a serious Broadway production this is not for you. If you are looking a hard rocking good time then Rock of Ages is a must.
We had a great time and totally enjoyed every minute. Could not get the smile off our faces during and after the show. Amazing fun! Definitely going back again!
Bang your head! \m/
Always love your reviews.
Hi Lanthie!
Thanks so much! I appreciate that you read and enjoy them! 🙂
You make the show sound really fun, even if I was too young to participate in that scene in the 80s….
Hi Allison!
Thanks for dropping by my blog and commenting! It’s a great show, and you would still love it as many of the songs we all still know and hear. Plus, it’s like a party there!
Will check out and follow your blog too!
Sounds like fun! Thanks for keeping us on top of NYC news. I live 50 mins from NYC and yet could just as well be in the North Pole when it comes to NYC’s arts and restaurants.
Hey Lauren!
Thanks for reading them. On top of my regular rants and ravings I also have a lot to say about NYC eats, drinks, events, etc. Have much more to come.
Hey, at least you are just a quick ride away. Enjoy!
Looks like fun! I love the costumes 🙂
Hey Foodie!
It’s a fun musical and the music rocks!
Just trying to visualize you with long hair & spandex Phil.
Mmm, have to say it’s a bit scary.
Cheers, ic
Hey Ian!

Loved it!!! Like a karaoke party (with way better singing).
Hey Jill!
Sex and drugs and rock and roll!
It’s a rock party with beer! Just have to do the sex and drugs at home. Or in the bathroom! 😉
I have always wanted to see this show! Lucky you livin’ in NYC. I love that place. By the way, did you wear spandex in the 80s? If so, so cool! I bet that was a sight to behold!
Hi Jennifer!
Thanks so much for dropping by my blog! Yes, Rock of Ages is a fun show to see. NYC does rock.
Spandex in the 80’s? I am wearing them now!
I just watched the movie, but I am betting the stage performance is WAY better. Love your review – honest and fun to read!
Did I mention that I added your button to my “Crazy-Good Bloggers” list? No? Well, I did! So neener neener! 😀
Hi Terrye!
Oh yes, the Broadway live version is way better than the movie, and a lot more fun!
You added my button? That rocks! Thanks so much! I’ll check it out. 🙂
